Ingredients:
5 turmeric leaves (big size)
1 cup rice (soak in water for 2 hours) along with 1 tablespoon flattened rice
1 cup grated dark jaggery
1 cup grated coconut
1 teaspoon cardamon powder
Salt (as per taste)
Preparation:
Wash the turmeric leaves and clean them with the cloth
From rice and flattened rice, drain the water and grind to make a thick fine paste. Add salt.
Add water (if necessary) to evenly spread on the leaf.
In a pan , put grated coconut and jaggery and allow it to heat till jaggery melts. Add cardamom powder and leave the mixture to cool.
On the front side of leaf, apply little oil and evenly spread the rice paste.
On the rice paste, evenly spread the mixture of coconut and jaggery.
Fold the leaf.
Continue the same procedure as mentioned above for the other patolis.
Now place the patolis in the steamer and let it steam for about 10-15 minutes or till done.
Remove from the steamer. Enjoy the Goan Patoli!
Patoli is made on the auspicious day of Nag Panchami, in the month of Shravana.
