'Light and Dark'

This is a study of surfaces, tonalities and the impact of light on them. Dark surface is different than the light one. It is made of small stones, while the light is made out of large ones. There are light and shade on both. The shadow on the dark surface almost completely takes away the low end of the tonality scale but not completely. The same thing goes for the light on the stones. Notice how the detail in the top left corner is still preserved even though the light is very close to burning it out. Shadow on the lighter area does the same as the light on the dark surface - evens out and creates the middle tones.*

I also composed it so that the areas are quite similar in size. This is about the eternal clash of the opposites, good and evil, right and wrong, yin and yang and so on. There are little yellow details in the dark part and some more in the light area. They add life to the image and help us understand that not many things are often only black and white. There are always so many shades in-between.

We should always make sure that we understand those areas well.
