'Alan Ford'
This one continues my search for the painted street water faucets. At least they were public water faucets before converted into art pieces. Alan Ford is a fiction character from an old series of comic books. It was originally made in Italy but had a huge following in this country. It is probably due to the brisk, cynic and often dark humour that was a widely accepted standard in socialist times. The series was about a group of poor struggling people living in the "corrupt" west and struggling hard to make it as "secret agents". They were all loyal to an old man who was running the show and greedily takes advantage of every situation. Already quite a lot of reasons for publishing it to children in those red party times.
However, it was the read all the kids embraced. Marvel superheroes were widely frowned upon and considered "stupid". They are indeed quite stupid to me, even from today's perspective. Alan Ford was a serious intellectual reading compared to superficial stories of mutual conflicts between small brain muscle fighters with shiny guns that Stan Lee served to kids in the States. I guess that's exactly why they now love to grab big weapons, embark canon-covered ships and fly shiny planes while righteously "protecting democracy" in some poor country far away, unaware of the fact that they are only means to an end, sent there only to help corporations make big profits. :D**
Notice the difference in saturation between the foreground and the background. While the faucet has rich, dense colours, the entire background is washed out. Look at the black-yellow contrast. (It is also the strongest colour-contrast combination.) Notice saturated yellow over the grey pavement and the dark black over the desaturated yellow. In between those two areas, strong red makes the image come alive.
I very much like the dotted area between yellow and grey, as well as the sewers. The overall feeling of this photograph matches the one from the comic series. The character painted on the ground is Alan Ford, himself. A poor graphic artist who found himself in the dubious group of "secret agents".
I think one can download these free of charge today. :)
Enjoy! :)
