What's up Steemians?!
It's been so busy lately that I nearly forgot to do the part 2 review of the awesome Browerij Frontaal beers I enjoyed while having a Friday night beer tasting with my friend , so It's time to finish the review of the last three beers, but first a few comments on Steem...
So Steem price is holding steady around $2.5 a tick and overall it seems to be trending more closely to Etherium than Bitcoin. Payday is coming soon and I feel like it's a good time to put some money into not only Steem but other cryptos too; here's looking at you Eos! I hope the window of opportunity to buy will last for another 10 days or so, but there will be a lot of whales who will want nothing to do with low Steem prices, I'm sure!
So let's get on with the reviews!
Freehand - Saison: Score 6.7
The Stats
This saison is brewed with 7.2% abv (high level for a saison), IBU:24 and EBC:13, so noticeably less bitter overall than the Tankard. The recipe used Perle and Palisade hops, bringing a more floral spicy aroma.
Color and Aroma
The Freehand has a bright amber color and low head combining with low carbonation, the aroma is floral and citrus, with orange and mandarin notes, fresh and not overpowering.
Flavor and Body
The notes of orange peels really show together with a fresh summer fruits taste, pineapple and a hint of passion fruit. Mild bitterness followed by a subtle but surprisingly delicious black pepper taste at the end which really puts a twist in this recipe. Nice work. The body is medium and goes well with the higher abv content, one has to be careful when drinking this beer because you could very have too many as this one scores high in drinkability.
Finish
The finish is easily the best part of this beer as the subtle black pepper taste lingers on for quite a while and there is no alcoholic feel at all. I quite enjoyed this.
Rhodesian - American Barley Wine: Score 7.7
The Stats
This barley wine is brewed with a whopping 11.3% abv, IBU:55 and EBC:38. The recipe combines the strength of the barley wine with all American hops - Cascade , Chinook and Centennial.
Color and Aroma
The Rhodesian has a dark brown color with low head and carbonation, as is typical of barley wines. The aroma is earthy and floral, mostly derived from the Cascade acids, with notes of caramel and toffee as well.
Flavor and Body
Right away you are hit with a sweet burned caramel flavor followed by the bitter earthiness of the hops which highlight some additional dark chocolate notes. Full body and very malted, feels like a great beer to barrel age or to mature for a couple of years and drink again.
Finish
The finish is malty, slightly smoky and long lasting while being slightly alcoholic, which is not a problem as this is balanced by its sweetness.
Last but not least, the Imperial Dutch Stout: Score 8.0 - Highly Recommended!
The Stats
This stout is brewed with real Stroop Waffel and is here to impress with its 11.0% abv, IBU:35 and EBC:138, together with Magnum, Brewers Gold and Palisade hops. It is important to note that besides using EIGHT different malts, the recipe mixes not only the typical ingredients of Stroop Waffle: Cinamon, Cloves, Nutmeg, etc. but according to our beer tasting guide, they actually use real waffles in the recipe, which perplexes me.
Color and Aroma
The Imperial Dutch Stout is leather black with a lightly present brown head and low carbonation. The aroma is spicy with cloves outshining the others. Nice notes of caramel and coffee.
Flavor and Body
Drinking this is like drinking Christmas, you are immediately hit with all things spicy, the cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg dance around in your palate, together with expresso notes and caramel. Full body and very malted, this exotic beer is also made for spending some time in the shelf.
Finish
The finish is slightly smoky with lasting notes of coffee, and low alcoholic feel, the flavor keeps on going for a while which I do enjoy a lot. What a well balanced and exotic beer!
