This Sunday there was a Beer Expo here in Athens and as you may have guessed I didn’t miss it. The fact that it was on Sunday and close to where I live helped a lot.
So meet Zythognosia an annual celebration of Greek craft beers. This was the fifth installment and it took place in one of most beautiful and of great importance buildings in Athens , the Zappeion Megaro.
So, I paid my 12 euros ticket for entrance, got my testing glass and entered the hall. There were more than 40 local breweries and more than 150 beers. Lots of beers to taste …
There was also merchandise and booths with books and equipment and first materials.
And a shop that you could buy the beers you liked. More than later.
You could wander the place of the exhibition and taste the beers that would catch your attention…
Or all the beers if you are a person that wants to know all the details …
That was in interesting Lager with honey and coriander…
Some beers had unique packaging.
Having tried a lot of beer of the same kind, I would say that most of the times the taste was similar. So, a stand out design could differentiate a brand … Or a story …
That was a bunch of tasty and strong beers. Especially the Barley W , took the name because it had an alcohol level of a wine. Can’t wait to review it.
Did you know that in Mykonos they also make beer ? I thought I was party all day and all night long. But on the other hand if you want to party you need beer , right ?
This booth had a wide collection of beers. Have you tasted chocolate beer ?
These guys showed us their raw material, but their beer didn’t stand out to me…
And talking about design and brand stories. These guys nailed it. Exceptional branding and back stories. They are call Gypsy Brewing because they don’t has a stable place and they brew their beer where ever they can find. Gypsy brewers, indeed.
And this beer is supposed to have the taste of American Lagers before the alcohol prohibition in the 1900s. How do they know it ? I don’t really care, but I am really sold on their story and I can’t wait to drink it.
They also had a red ale but don’t remember much about it.
And after all this beer drinking you got hungry. Don’t worry Po’Boys got you covered. A food truck with roasts of the American south… I think , but give me a break I had tasted so many beers…
I order a little bit of everything and I got two plates. One it had coleslaw salad with apple sauce which was awesome , a fried thing that totally sucked and a fantastic home made bread. I was particularly impressed by the bread and I reminded the bread that my parents bake. ( they are amateur bakers ).
And now to the meat. A huge rib, some pulled pork, slices of beef and a delicious hot sasauge, which was the star of the show. The meat was fantastic and they said they have a special smoker for extra flavor.
I paid 10 euros , quality food but bit overpriced.
So, it was time to go … But not before I got some loot that I will gladly lay my tasting buds and share the review with you .
Be healthy , Smile and Steem !
