Hello Steemians !
This is my first attempt at the #beersaturday challenge, I hope you'll like my content !
The story for this one is quite funny. It was my first year at university, I was a brand new student and at my "kot" (it's like a house where 4 to 12 students live), a party was organized.
There was a lot of people that I don't know, I went near a group and start talking to them about what beer they come with. I knew almost all their beer except this one so I was intrigued by it and asked for a sip ! I found this beer very special in every aspect especially the look of the bottle and the taste but that is for the tasting part ;-)
Description
This is a brown/black beer with 10.5%, it's brewed in the Flemish part of Belgium at Ertvelde. It's strangely hard to find because, since my discovery, I had some hard time to find it again.
Anyway, there is quite a story behind the name and the logo of this beer. The legend says that the golden dragon (which translate into Gulden Draak in Flemish) was on the prow of the ship with which the Norwegian king Sigurd Magnusson sailed in 1111 to go on a crusade. Then he offered it to the emperor but it was stolen by the Flemish one hundred years later and put the Norwegian dragon into the city of Bruges. It was once again stolen during a war in Belgium and put on the top of the Ghent Belfry.
I'm not used putting photos that I did myself of the beer because I don’t think they are very great but here is some for the #beersaturday :
I don't have the right glass for this one so I took a classic Leffe glass.
Tasting
Time to taste ! The smell is pretty nice and when I tasted it, I expected it would be a heavy beer due to the alcohol but it was surprisingly soft ! Honestly, it's one of my favorite beer, I can compare it to the Chimay Bleu, it's at least as balanced. By that I mean it's not too bitter, sour or sweet. Still, it has a complex taste which evolves in the mouth and there is a small pleasant after taste.
Rating
I rate this beer 17/20, it's one of my favorite ! I love its balance and the evolution of its taste, I couldn't say more about this one it's simply an amazing well-made beer !
