Steem Shirts and Beer in Adelaide!
I ran a "design an Aussie Steem Shirt" competition for my online store @steemitshopaustralia a few weeks ago and finally got the winning shirt printed last week. Since I was visiting Adelaide, where the winning shirt designer lives, I figured I might as well deliver the shirt in person!
Even better, (another Adelaidian) had also placed an order recently. So I was able to swing past his and deliver his shirts at the same time. There's nothing like hand delivering your products!
And of course, being interstate for the weekend, I have to try some new beers. So after delivering the shirts I headed off to a new brewery that I had only recently heard of.
Shifty Lizard Brewery!
I'd only recently heard about this brewery, and didn't realise how new they are. They've only been operating about 18 months. But are already making some great beers.
I was able to grab a few take aways from here after doing some small tastings. It was late and I had a long drive to my parents place, so there would be no sitting and chatting with the bar tender tonight.
I went home with their pale ale, red ale, IPA and stout. This is actually their full range of beers. They also only brew in small batches which gave me reasonably high expectations about the quality of their beers. It's late, and I'm dog tired. So below is a small write up of each beer.
Pale Ale
This came across as an American Pale Ale, it was quite fruity on the nose with lots of citrus and tropical fruits. The fruit on the palate was mild. And it was also quite hoppy with a mild bitterness. This is a highly drinkable Pale Ale and I would definitely head back for more.
Interestingly, this beer is contract brewed rather than brewed at their premises. This hasn't appeared to diminish the quality though.
Hoppy Irish Red Ale
I was extremely happy with this Red Ale. It's big and bold, malty and not at all bitter. It has a fantastic complexity about it which made it quite possibly the best red ale that I've ever had.
IPA
This is a pretty traditional IPA which was nice and fruity, very hoppy and had a lovely bitterness. It's very aromatic as you'd expect and highly drinkable as well. It's not the best IPA that I've had but very good at the same time. I'd have no issues recommending this IPA to anyone.
Stouty Mc Stout Face
Of all the beers, this was the one I was most eager to try, and partly because of the name. It was quite sad to discover that this is a very weak Stout at 5.5% which also brought with it weak flavours and little complexity. I'm a bit annoyed at this to be honest. I was looking forward to a nice and meaty stout.
Overall Assessment
I'm pretty happy with this brewery overall, they do a fantastic Red Ale and their IPA and Pale Ale appear to be very solid beers. It's just a shame about that Stout...
