Rhino Brew: Bitter Stout (My Home Brew)
As most of you might know, I do brew my own BEER and due to the ban on alcohol sales, here in South Africa, due to the Covid-19 virus, I had to up my production rate.
My name is Ryno, in Afrikaans it is pronounced Rayno, but the English people pronounce it Rhino, thus I decided to call my BEER Rhino Beer!!
I brewed this BEER 4 weeks ago and bottled it 2 weeks ago. (I posted about both events) I normally bottle age for 4 weeks, but my curiosity got the better off me, and I opened this BEER on Saturday, while brewing my next batch!!
Obviously, one need to prepare the glass, properly, by leaving it in the fridge for a few hours!!
The bottle opened with a nice POP, I just love it when it does, as this indicates that good carbonation took place!!
It formed a beautiful caramel tan colored head, on top a dark black body - this is what a STOUT should look like!!
(When last did you see a beautiful STOUT like this?)
The time to taste finally arrived - like they say the proof is in the pudding!! I took that first sip and it was GOOD!!. It has a nice taste of burnt toffee and it was bitter. I think the bitterness, could be a bit much for some people, but I love bitter beers, and this was just great!! I added quite a bit of Bravo hops, as I wanted a bitter beer, thus it came out as expected. I calculated the alcohol content to be 5.1%, which is a good mid weight BEER.
If you read my post of a month ago, you might remember, that I could not get all the ingredients that I wanted, due to stock outs caused by the lock down. I originally wanted to use pale chocolate malt, but substituted it with black malt as this was what was available. I wanted to use a different yeast as well, but I am very happy with the result, and will brew a similar beer again, maybe with a little less of the Bravo hops!!
I will post on my next brew soon, this one was also made from available ingredients from my supplier, who is still running low on stock.
I hope you liked the post as much as I liked writing it.
Stay Safe!!
