#BeerSaturday should not be mistaken for the legendary industrial pioneers Front 242 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front_242

I became a beer blogger naturally due to years I have spent brewing for myself, working with breweries on their technology and marketing, and the decades spent imbibing. Hence, the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist and am cranking up the Beerology game this year.
For week 242, We are leaning into the shorties of the week, and drinking the fruits of our labours.
Pint o' the Week!
The Pint of the Week is generally special because it is a great beer enjoyed on the town, with friends and supporting local breweries and bars. It is even more special this week because we brewed it ourselves! Just another in a sneak peak of a story that is unfolding now but will be told in full when the legalities are taken care of.
Suffice to say, we built ourselves a brewing operation on a shoestring budget and components we already owned, assembled some various bargain ingredients, and now have beer pouring through the taps at an establishment in town! It is clear and refreshing, darker in malt character but lighter in alcohol as far as we can tell. Should make for a great tale for Adventures in Beerology sometime toon. 'Til then, it is definitely thr pint of the week as we celebrate our own brewing project!
Revolting!
I have been enjoying Flying Monkeys https://www.flyingmonkeys.ca/ IPA for over a decade and blogging about it for about 4. They labels are as wild as their website, and they have unapologetically brewed the hoppiest and cloudiest beer around. I can think of a dozen of their IPAs I pick from the shelves regularly though I have never visited their tap room. I wonder if this lighter IPA will be as good as the heavy stuff.
Weighing in at only 4.5% alcohol and not even wearing the scarlet letter of the Session IPA, the side panel of this one makes as little sense as the illustrations. I can definitely see how this is a beer to drink on the fly.
These beers are always worth 3 pictures and that many doesn't really do the mosaic of design justice. Brewing with many of the standard full IPA hops, this doesn't really taste like a lighter session IPA. Perhaps not as serious as their other IPAs, it still is a good beer. I really should pick this one up in the summer when I pit the under-5% beers against each other in a bloody duel to decide which one is best for chugging during thirsty summer sports.
Smashed Nail
I went to Jobsite Brewery, as I regularly do, for some shorties for the fridge for when a full pint is just a bit too much. When I got there, I picked up 6 tall ones of their latest NEIPA instead. Then, I saw that there was something special on the menu.
There was a 4-pack of different shorties https://www.jobsitebrewing.ca/buybeer/quittin-time-vermont-ipa-t4fsx-2stk7 that featured various different hops using he same malt base but hop it with a different one every time. Seeing as their malt base is neutral in flavour, each hop will be able to do its thing and enable beerologists to understand what each hop does to a beer. Hopefully I will not snag this shorty at the end of a long session and not be sober enough to remember the last one!
There are plenty of different kinds of hammers and even more kinds of nails. it will be nice to tuck into each of these beers in future #beersaturday posts and see which ones are the best.
#BEERSaturday!
