I encountered an angry motorist today in a section of road where I have had two people pass me when it was not safe to do so. The section is 30 mPH curvy residential with subdivision entrances and medians with a traffic circle ahead. No need to be in a rush through this section.
The pickup truck (i have the license plate picture but have not posted here since he apologized) zoomed past me in a section where the lanes open up from a median for about 100 ft and then another median begins. He tried to squeeze past me and just like the last guy bumped the median curb and got way to close to me so i had to move over to be safe. This is why it is important to be in the lane, you have room to move.
He pulled in to the local park in the next 200 feet at the traffic circle. That is one of my exits home and i followed him in. He began erratically parking and smashing up on the curb in several attempts. It was clear he was agitated.
I stopped and waited a minute nearby. He got out and began messing with equipment in a frenzy. Once he finished and headed back to the cab I rode up and took a picture of his license plate and intended to post to the dangerous driver database. He asked me what i was doing so i informed him, he got very angry. I asked him to calm down and think about what he did and that I am a person who has the rights to be in the road as a legal vehicle. Still not buying it I brought out my trusty booklet with statutes and explanations and proceeded to discuss why I had the right to be in the road.
I am not going to detail topics but it was the usual script i follow, legal vehicle , statute # 316.2065 5a subsection 3. motorists do not pay for 100% of roads. I pay taxes. I own two cars. etc.
he got it. he calmed down. he looked at me and demeanor changed apologized and asked to shake my hand. we did and i left not feeling agitated and i really think he seemed to be in a better mood.
What I cannot figure out is what is it about motor vehicles that can be so fun makes people crazy?
here is the section where he passed.northbound.
