When riding your bicycle on the road you should use mirrors and when available use any items that improve your visibility such as lights and reflective hi-visibility clothing.
- always scan ahead for conflict points and vehicles coming from them .
- always scan behind you in mirror to observe vehicle behavior
- are they changing lanes early?
- do they appear aggressive?
- Is there a platoon of vehicles behind you? if so, can you move over in safe area to allow them to pass?
- do not move over if you will be unable to take full control of the lane again
- be visible. ride bold.
- communicate with drivers and thank those who pass you with respect.
- ride with camera systems.
Despite having hi- visible clothing and flashing lights this bad driver pulled right out in front of me with ZERO traffic in either direction.
