Red-tailed Hawks are common throughout the US. This particular hawk is on this windmill most afternoons when we go on our walks. It provides a nice vantage point as is apparent in the first photo where he is obviously dialed in on something - probably some of the many rodents in the fields around his windmill.
The second photo shows more of the windmill. The slate colored background is due to the smoke from the northern California wildfires.
