There is always something that you see while out delivering and I thought I would make a diary of the events that happen while out on the road.
This is a start of probably a long journey while I am out on the road.
Today like every other day started out slow, 2 deliveries here and there and then as soon as 7pm hits it is like the government have lifted a telephone ban and everybody orders, it is great fun but it can be too busy for just one driver.
I like to answer the phone, it makes it so much easier for everyone who works in the shop as they can only speak limited English and that sometimes makes mistakes to orders as things get missed.
customers have took well to me and they seem to know me by name and they ask for me when I am not there.
Tonight was a strange night, I had answered the phone to a customer who was drunk, she had called into the shop and ordered food and decided that she wanted it delivering to her house instead of waiting for it.
If she had have waited it would have been with her within 20 minutes but like all deliveries there is an order they go out in, this is worked out by the time they shop received the order and the distance to the customer.
The way it works for all the shops that I have worked in is the further away you live the longer you wait for your food, this is so someone closer doesn't get cold food so there isn't two unhappy customers.
The lady thought that because she ordered in shop she would get priority over the other deliveries, she was shouting and raving about it not been at her house even though it had been only half an hour.
The normal wait time is 45 minutes to an hour if it gets to you earlier than that it is a bonus.
She shouted down the food, "if my food is cold, I am going to throw it at you!" which is the first time that I have heard anyone say that to me.
I explained that she was in look and it was the next one out of the shop, I stayed happy the whole time and that made it hard for her to keep been mad at me.
When I got to her house her son was out side, It just happened that I knew him and he was shaking my hand and asking me if I wanted to stay for a beer, I couldn't but I said to him that maybe another time when I wasn't working and he seemed happy with that.
His mum burst out side and the look on her face was the one I thought that I would have been met with, you know the one, a pitbull chewing a wasp.
A soon as she saw me shaking her sons hand her attitude change and was all I am so happy your here and was smiling it was quality to see how much it changed her when she knew that I knew her son.
I then went back to the shop, I was pulling up and some little bastards had decided that it would be funny to chuck eggs in the shop and at the windows, another member of staff was cleaning it up when it happened again.
Instead of been a grown up about it, he decided that a chase would be the best thing, and he set off out after them and we didn't even know that he had gone.
After he had got back to the shop the kids thought it was funny to do it again, and this time they stood their ground, and started asking to fight, I just laughed and walked back into the shop.
this kept happening all night till about 10.30pm so this must have been the time their mummy and daddy's needed them home for bed.
The night started to slow down, it went from crazy delivering to a steady one or two orders to be taken in the car.
my last delivery was the worst of the night, I drove pretty far to a house that had no lights on, i came to the front door expecting to have a security light welcoming me but instead I was met with the smell that I can only presume death smells like.
I knocked on the door and this fat man answered the door, I asked him to turn the light on so I could see what I was doing and he told me he couldn't as he had been cut off, the smell was so bad now he had opened the door that I felt so sick.
I passed him his food and then he paid me £32.00 for the food that I had brought him, I asked him how he placed his order using just eat and he told me that his neighbour had done it for him because he was hungry.
A car went passed and the lights from it lit the door that the man was stood at, it was like he had not been changed or washed in months, there was even dried food around his mouth.
I went back to my car and phoned my wife to make sure she was ok, I told her about what I had just seen and smelt and we had a joke together about it.
what really makes me think that this guy is crazy is the fact that he can spend £32 pound on a takeaway but he can't pay his electric bill. If he had have paid for it he could have bought the ingredients for £5 and made enough to put in the fridge for a few days.
i hate to see people like this I feel sorry for them but they have to do something to get them selves sorted and that sometimes is the hard part.
I am and I hope you have liked reading about tonight's antics.
