Cacao plants could go extinct by 2050 due to global warming which prompts scientists to team up with Mars, Inc. food and candy company known for Snickers.
Scientists are exploring the use of new gene- editing technology, that would manipulate cacao plants.
If successful the seedlings would be able to survive hotter climates.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration cacao plants are sensitive and can only grow about 20 degrees north and south of the equator, and need rainforest-like conditions.
