Hey ya!!! It was only 4 degrees this morning...
Pretty cold for November... It's so hard to adjust to the temperature!!!
Since it was pretty cold today,
I decided to make good old simmered vegetables with chicken in...lol
This simmering method is very common in Japanese food, and very traditional. I like it because brings the flavor and can actually taste the Vegetables!!!!!
This method, usually use seasoning to taste the dish;
- Soy sauce
- Sugar
- Dashi
- Pinch of salt
- Water
If you have these, you are set to go!!! you can make typical Japanese simmered dish.
Today, I used carrot, lotus root, and sticky potatoes called Sato-Imo. Lotus root is the one with holes in, and sticky one has a bit of hair around the body.
You just cut them in bite size, pan fry them a bit, add all the seasoning that I mentioned, cook it until vegetables are soften.
For this much of ingredients, you need about...
- 500ml of water
- 3 Tbs of sugar
- 50ml of soy sauce
- 1 sachet of fish stock (Dashi)
- Pinch of Salt
You may not be able to find the Sato-imo (sticky potato),
then maybe you can use normal potatoes as well..
I hope you like this traditional way of cooking
Thanks
