Most of this week I spent in the village where my parents live. So i got a chance to have some real village summer fun along with my dad and mum. We were making the supplies for winter (the coming one and the following), because that is what people in the russian villages do when they harvest fruits and vegetables from their gardens.
That day was dedicated to tomatoes.
For the last several years my dad became a big fan of growing tomatoes. This year he did "smaller plantation" of them. But even the "smaller" one is about the size of the swimming pool in a gym club i visit.
This summer is really hot - up to +45 in the shadow - so he put a net over them to protect them from the burning sun. He grows several kinds of tomatoes, and this selection is being changed every year, depends which ones we like the most.
Dad was smart to wear a jacket. I collected tomatoes in a blouse with a short sleeves and the skin on my arms itched after tearing through the thickets of tomato bushes.
A caterpillar on his shoulder is the future cabbage butterfly. Usually they eat cabbage. But this year there was only one rain during the summer, and there was almost no cabbage. The caterpillars changed their diet and moved to tomatoes... Probably some caterpillar's TV calls this "trend" or "more healthy way of living", to make it less sad for them :D
That is the most (but not all) part of tomatoes me have collected in that day:
Collecting the tomatoes was only the beginning... After that we washed them 3 times, cut them into pieces and cooked a tomatoes juice... Well, dad was cooking them so i don't have any pictures of it... only of washing, that's what i was doing :)
That big sauce pan is full of sliced tomatoes!
All this work took the most part of the day. And there are still cucumbers waiting for some attention... As long as it's warm, people in the villages have never ending fun :D
I want to read something about the travels
No, please me with some pretty pictures! :D
