History of Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
The Alfa Romeo Giulia, Series 105, was the successor of the Giuletta introduced in 1962. The car was designed by Gruppo Bertone, the famous Italian coachbuilder. The racing team of Alfa, Autodelta, used a closed version of Giula to produce the GTA version (A standing for Alleggerita, lightened in Italian). It was the Golden age for Alfa Romeo racing. You have just think about the Giula TZ or TZ2...
The GTA car has been very successful on racetracks in Europe and the United States. Alfa Romeo developed many variants. But the first version with its 1,600 cc engine remains the most sought after by collectors. This example participated to the first SCCA Trans American Series in 1966 with behind the wheel Horst Kwech (Autraslia) and Gaston Andrey (Swiss). The next month, the car with Kwech won the American Road Race in California... Great carreer on the tracks with 1966 B-Sedan Championship and the Presidents Cup for Kwech (the most important award for pilot in the SCCA).
After 1985, the car was used to Historic Sportscar Racing events as the Stella Alpina (for example), well described in the post of :
Italy, Firing On All Cylinders.
