RM Sotheby's is offering up one of my favorite car, this golden 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa through its annual Paris Sale next saturday (February, 13th) with an price around ⬠200,000.
History of Porsche 911 Targa
All began with the successor to the Porsche 356 in 1959, more powerful, larger and confortable sports car (essentially storage for all set of golf clubs š). The prototype 901 was presented during the 1963 Frankfurt Motorshow. Thanks to Peugeot that claimed the right to three-digit car with zero in the middle, Porsche changed the name to 911.
In the 60's, Porsche wanted to make a fully open convertible for the US market but had some doubts about the homologation of the NHTSA (US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). So Porsche added on the 911 Targa a stainless steel clad roll bar to improve the security. The name comes from Targa Florio, open road endurance automobile race held in Sicily between 1906 and 1977. The Italian term also means number plate.
In 1968 until 1973, the Porsche Targa has a fixed rear window like this example. And customers could choose between the 3 models of 911 :
š T,
š E,
š and S (more performance).
Porsche introduced an oil flap on the rear fender. But it wasn't easy for drivers who often put petrol in for the greatest pleasure of the garage owners š . This feature was withdrawn after just after one year, making the oil flap a rare option.
Specification
This Porsche 911 Targa is equipped 2.4 litre flat V6 engine flat V6 engine with a five-speed manual transmission producing 190 hp.
This example was finished Metallic Gold (pretty rare color) with black interior. The car was fully restored by Early 911s, German company restoring old 911 (before 1998) in its original conditions. Beautiful work š
What do you think of this color ? I think it's pretty cool, it goes well with this model.
