Former student of the Santo Ignacio Carlos Eduardo Albuquerque Maranhão School, 46, who had been reunited with friends after being interviewed in O Globo by Cracolândia, died on Wednesday.
Sarda, as he was known, was eventually rescued by the group, who recognized him in the video. He was hospitalized in a clinic in Araras, a mountainous region of Rio.
Read below the text written by Carlos Moreira, one of Sarda's friends:
"Our Sarda died a few hours ago during the most critical period of abstinence that I was going through." I am empty, my emotions blocked and trapped inside a plane with wifi Deep sadness I delivered the news to the family with a huge weight on the back. I am part of a group of people who have acted in a coordinated way and are moved by a single feeling that is love, but I feel responsible for the actions that I have personally performed (sic.) I confess that I would do everything I did again. Sarda said at one point that if we arrived three months later he would not be alive any more.
He also said that if it was not for going to the clinic in question he would rather stay where he was. When he arrived at the clinic he said that he had not seen grass for more than 6 years.
We have the consolation that our friend, wherever he may be, arrived in a more dignified manner than he would have if he were still in a Cracowland. May our thoughts be with him and also with the family, to whom I offer everything in my power to reduce the pain of the moment.
Going further, I love the Sardinian and the union he has generated in so many different classes. And that this union generates reflection on what we can do in this life and we do not for lack of courage that was left in our friend. I love life too and now I need to organize the shelves of my heart.
Sincere thanks and a tight embrace on everyone who supported, believed and contributed. We will offer the best possible driving experience for the Sarda and the family in this final stage. Our group is now present with the family and in the clinic accompanying and giving all necessary logistical and financial support. I'll be back in Rio as soon as possible.
I sincerely hope to be understood and accepted at the seventh-day Mass (or something like that) because I need to share what is inside me now and that I still can not write. "We're all this time."
