It's no secret that I love my cats and my little dog and that in itself is very healing, the giving of unconditional love. What I didn't realize, however, and have come to learn over the years of having these beautiful beings in my life is how amazingly intuitive and healing our pets really are.
Research has shown that when you pet a friendly animal, your muscles relax and blood pressure goes down.
Moreover, it can lower your levels of cortisol in your blood (cortisol is a stress hormone) and increase your levels of dopamine, a neurotransmitter in the brain responsible for controlling the sensation of pleasure and increased motivation.
And if that's not cool enough, research has also shown that people who pet a friendly dog experience an increase in immunoglobulin A, an antibody that gives our immune system a boost.
The most amazing thing I find over and over is that when I need some TLC, my cats are right there... they read our energy, they sense our need for love.
