The story is around Dr. Philip Loder an economics professor at a New England university and his journey to buy his dream house, a movie directed by Paul Dektor and written by Theodore Melfi. Phil has a very normal life as a professor but has a big dream buy his first house but not just a house a mansion but the true is that with his salary $50,000 per year is almost impossible for him to achieve that goal, while he is dreaming about it he attends open house showing of luxurious homes hosted by his real estate broker and friend Dell situation that doesn’t like Dell due to fact that Phil use to scare the potential buyers, in one of those moments Dell told Phil to please just be realistic and that buy a normal condo for people with no money and stop the idea of buying a mansion it really bothers him but even though he will continue trying until he gets his dream home because he also needed to have inspiration to write his book. One day something strange happen, like a miracle, Phil was looking at ads in the newspaper and saw that a beautiful hose was in sale in 5 millions but that was also another offer for $240,000 but including a live-in it means that the owner of the house wanted to continue living in the house until her dead. Phil contacted his real state friend Dell told him about that opportunity, Dell look for more information and when he get it just told Phil that it was his change to get what he wanted a big house but with a guest that will stay for a short time or that is what they believe. Phil take the deal and used all his savings to get a house and start living in it with Astrid the supposedly sick widow who tell that she has no kids and is the only one living in that house, but things starting to change in Phil’s live and also start knowing things about Astrid life that will change everything for example she does have kids, she was more alive than ever and that a real strange friendship will arise. American Dreamer is a story that will show all the odd situations that Phil is going to face and will discover through that path more important things than house.

American Dreamer is a story based on a true life segment of the radio show This American Life and will show during the movie how the relationship between two stranger can grow until the point of feeling good with each other, the movie explores themes of greed, loneliness and the anxiety of chasing the American dream it was filmed in 2022 and will be released in theaters on March 8th.

Cast packing great talent and some known faces.

The cast of American Dreamer is remarkable starting with Peter Dinklage he portrays Dr. Phil Loder, he is a acclaimed actor for his role as Tyron Lannister in the greatest TV Series Games of Throne. Shirley MacLaine take the role of Astrid the widow, she is an actress with more than 50 years of career and just for mention some of her works Downton Abbey 2012, Terms of Endearment 1983, Steel Magnolias 1989, McLain has been awarded through all this years. Matt Dillon appear as Dell, Dillon is an actor recognized for his roles in movies such as There’s Something About Mary 1998, Crash 2005 and the horror crime drama The House that Jack Built. Danny Pudi is Craig, he is recognized for his role in the comedy TV Series Community and has a role in the new series Avatar: The Last Airbender. Danny Glover take the role of a private detective, Glover is known for his role in the iconic Letal Weapon series. Kimberly Quinn plays Maggie Pennington, she is also a writer and producer she made her film debut in the drama film Winding Roads 1999 and other roles in Hidden Figures 2016 and The Starling 2020.

Paul Dektor is more known as a producer for many productions such as Equal Means Equal 2016, The Chess Machine and Frayed 2015 but now is debuting as a director with the movie American Dreamer 2024, it is a new start and opportunity in the life of the director.

The reception of the movie on its release in the different festivals has created different opinions but the most known is about the good cast of the movie in special Dinklage’s performance that shows his black humor and sarcasm in so natural way, also the good synergy that of Dinklage and McLain.

Bringing a realistic topic of buying a house for many people in the today American Dreamer is giving that sense of empowerment that any individual needs in certain point of his/her life to achieve their dream in the case of the movie in a very twisted and humor way with two main character Phil’s dreaming with his house and Astrid searching for company. The premise of buying a house with quest for life a very odd situation for many people to accept but something in order to get your dream people is capable of accept certain situation obviously if that don’t cost our life. Is a movie with a funny topic, with a lot of humor and with a uncertain ended.

This is definitely a movie that I will be please to watch because is a really interesting plot that I needs to confirm how it will end and also with greatest actor such as Peter Dinklage and Shirley McLaine she in particular an icon in all this industry. I surely will enjoy it.
