* * * I diagnosed a problem with the vertical deflection circuit, and adding up the approximate cost of all the parts, I came to about $18 to $20, not including the labor cost for repairing the TV.

* * * I recommended buying another used TV, since the cost of a used CRT TV is around $16 to $20, but that old dinosaur had strong sentimental value. So, I had no choice but to grit my teeth and try to start my own electronic Jurassic Park. The dust normally suspended in the air always ended up being attracted to the inside of these old devices, and that's why the inside of the cases ended up being coated with a thick layer of dust all over the electronic board.

* * * Something quite important is to discharge the CRT TV screen, because of the high operating voltage, approximately 1000 volts per inch of screen (the screens in these CRT TVs were measured from the top corner to the opposite bottom corner). A 20-inch screen can be in the operating range of about 20,000 volts.

* * * After washing the board with solvent and drying it, we were able to work on the vertical circuit fault. Thanks to the guidance of the supervisor, Mr. Black Cat, I was able to stay focused on the repair.

* * * Afterward, it's always necessary to discharge the capacitors on the electronic board, both at the power supply input and in the secondary voltage section, to be able to work safely and avoid accidents or damaging the tester. I used the Capacheck (ESR meter) to check the capacitors without having to desolder and remove them from the circuit board, so I could quickly check entire sections of the board in one go.

* * * I had to dig through my files for the schematics of that CRT TV. The 20-inch Toshiba models were very popular, and I had several of them to repair in the past. It was lucky because I couldn't find those schematics to download online. It's an obsolete technology.

* * * This isn't a repair that's done nowadays, so I'll summarize the process: I replaced the 5.5-ohm resistor that supplied the integrated circuit with 25 volts and the capacitors in the TV's vertical section that were damaged.

* * * The screen only opened a little.

* * * After checking, I got to the jungle circuit section and found that it also had damaged capacitors.

* * * I replaced them and tested the screen again.

* * * With that, the problem was fixed. This is not a job that is done nowadays; it is not profitable for the customer; it is more expensive in the end than changing the TV or buying a used LED TV. But sentimental value has an important weight in people's decisions, and affection and attachment are something that cannot be measured or costly.

* * * Recomendé comprar otro TV usado, ya que el costo de un TV usado CRT ronda entre los 16 a 20 $, pero ese viejo dinosaurio tenia un fuerte valor sentimental. Así que no me quedo de otra que hacer de tripas corazón y tratar de iniciar mi propio parque jurásico electrónico. El polvo normalmente suspendido en el aire terminaba siempre siendo atraído al interior de estos viejos aparatos, y por eso en el interior de las cajas, terminaban por estar siempre forrados con una capa gruesa de polvo por toda la tarjeta electrónica.

* * * Algo bastante importante es descargar la pantalla del TV CRT, por la alta tensión de trabajo son unos 1000 volts aprox por cada pulgada de la pantalla (las pantallas en estos TV CRT, se median de esquina superior a la esquina inferior opuesta), una pantalla de 20 pulgadas puede estar en el rango de trabajo de unos 20 mil volts.

* * * Después de lavar la tarjeta con solvente y secarla pudimos trabajar en la falla de circuito vertical, gracias a la dirección del supervisor el Sr. Black Cat pude mantenerme enfocado en la reparación.

* * * Después hay siempre que descargar los condensadores de la tarjeta electrónica., tanto en la entrada de la fuente de alimentación como en la sección de los voltajes secundarios, para poder finalmente trabajar con seguridad y evitar accidentes o dañar el tester. Use el capacheck (medidor de ESR) para verificar los capacitores sin la necesidad de desoldarlos y retirarlos de la tarjeta electrónica., por lo que pude verificar rápidamente de una tirada secciones completas de la tarjeta electrónica.

* * * Tuve que rebuscar en mi archivo los planos de ese TV CRT, los Toshiba de 20 pulgadas eran muy populares y en el pasado tuve varios de esos TV para reparar, fue una suerte porque en el internet ya que no encontré esos planos para descargar. Es una tecnología que esta fuera de uso.

* * * No es una reparación. que se haga hoy día, por eso resumiré el proceso: Cambie la resistencia de 5,5 ohm que alimentaba al circuito integrado con los 25 volts y los condensadores de la sección vertical del TV que estaban dañados.

* * * La pantalla solo abría un poco.

* * * Después de revisar mas llegue a la sección del circuito Jungla y encontré que también tenia condensadores dañados, los cambie y volví a probar la pantalla.

* * * Ya con eso la falla estaba corregida.

* * * Este no es un trabajo que se haga hoy día, no es rentable para el cliente, es mas costoso al final que cambiar de TV o comprar un TV LED usado, pero el valor sentimental tiene un peso importante en las decisiones de las personas y el cariño y apego es algo que no se puede medir ni tiene costo.
