Last Friday, May 1, Labor Day was celebrated, and in Venezuela, as in many other countries, it is typically a holiday dedicated to commemorating the labor activists who participated in the 1886 Chicago protests in their fight to reduce the workday to eight hours. For this reason, that weekend was longer than usual, and in my case, I was pleasantly surprised by a visit from my older son, who came to Barquisimeto—the city where, like his father and brother, he was born, grew up, and spent his childhood and much of his adolescence before moving to the capital—accompanied by his beautiful young girlfriend. We had the opportunity to visit various sites around the city, including the Manto de María Divina Pastora Monument (Monument to Our Lady of the Divine Shepherdess), the Flor de Venezuela, the Barquisimeto Cathedral, the Divine Shepherdess Shrine in the town of Santa Rosa, the Terepaima Market, the Sambil Shopping Center, and of course, we couldn’t miss the customary food tour of the city’s trendy spots. # > *El pasado viernes 1ro. de Mayo, se celebró el Día del Trabajador, y en Venezuela al igual que muchos otros países, suele ser un día feriado dedicado a recordar a los sindicalistas que participaron en las protestas de Chicago en 1886, en su lucha por la reducción de la jornada laboral a ocho horas.* > > *Por esta razón, ese fin de semana fué mas largo de lo habitual, y en mi caso en particular fuí sorprendido gratamente con la visita del mayor de mis dos hijos, quien vino acompañado de su hermosa y joven novia a Barquisimeto, la ciudad donde al igual que su padre y su hermano; nació, creció, vivió su niñez y gran parte de su adolescencia, antes de mudarse a la capital de la república.* > > *Tuvimos la oportunidad de recorrer diversos puntos de la ciudad, entre los que destacan el Monumento Manto María Divina Pastora, la Flor de Venezuela, la Catedral de Barquisimeto, el Santuario de la Divina Pastora en la población de Santa Rosa, el Mercado Terepaima, el Centro Comercial Sambil, y por supuesto, no podía faltar el correspondiente tour gastronómico por los lugares trendy de la ciudad.*

My son, who is about to turn 30, brought his girlfriend to the city for the first time—a place she had never been before. This trip also gave him the chance to introduce her to his grandmother (my mother), his uncles and aunts, and other family members who hadn’t met her in person, even though they’ve been dating for over five years. Ultimately, this surprise visit to his hometown led to an emotional family reunion with everyone, and most importantly, created and preserved memories that will be priceless in the years to come. As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed. # > *Mi hijo quien está próximo a cumplir 30 años de edad, trajo por primera vez a su novia a la ciudad, donde ella nunca había estado. Además, este viaje también sirvió para presentarla a su abuela (mi madre), tíos y otros miembros de la familia que no la conocían personalmente, aún cuando ya tienen mas de 5 años de noviazgo.* > > *Finalmente, esta sorpresiva visita a su tierra natal, sirvió para un emotivo reecuentro familiar con todos, y lo mas importante de todo, crear y atesorar recuerdos que el día de mañana no tendrán precio.* > > *Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.*
