As mentioned in my first report about our Costa Rica trip, we stayed at "Playa Junquillal" in the "Mundo Milo Eco Lodge", which is the main subject of this post.

The accommodation units available in this resort, which is located in the middle of the forest and at the same time very close to the beach - "The African", "The Persian", "The Mexican" and "The Oriental Cabina" - are each dedicated to different world regions, whereby we had chosen the Persian one.

Numerous exotic plants thrive on the rather extensive grounds, and with some luck you can even observe monkeys climbing around in the trees. There is also a restaurant that meets the highest standards and a beautiful swimming pool.

I would like to especially emphasize the friendliness of the Dutch owners Lieke van de Loo and Michiel Breman, with whom we had many interesting conversations (besides several other languages, they both speak excellent German) and who, among other things, drove us free of charge in their private car to the nearby beach of Tamarindo as well as to Santa Cruz and also gave me their own meds when I was afflicted with severe diarrhea towards the end of the stay (possibly due to eating in another restaurant).

Furthermore, they support several environmental projects in the surrounding area, some of which I will mention in the picture section to follow.

Wie im ersten Bericht über unsere Costa Rica-Reise bereits erwähnt, wohnten wir am "Playa Junquillal" in der "Mundo Milo Eco Lodge", die das Hauptthema dieses Artikels darstellt.

Die in diesem mitten im Wald und doch zugleich sehr nahe am Strand gelegenen Resort verfügbaren Wohneinheiten ("The African", "The Persian", "The Mexican" und "The Oriental Cabina") sind jeweils unterschiedlichen Weltregionen gewidmet, wobei wir uns für die persische entschieden hatten.

Auf dem recht weitläufigen Gelände gedeihen zahlreiche exotische Pflanzen, und mit etwas Glück kann sogar in den Bäumen herumkletternde Affen beobachten.
Zur Verfügung stehen außerdem ein durchaus gehobenen Ansprüchen gerecht werdendes Restaurant sowie ein schöner Swimmingpool.

Ganz besonders hervorheben möchte ich die Freundlichkeit der niederländischen Inhaber Lieke van de Loo und Michiel Breman, mit denen wir viele interessante Gespräche führten (neben mehreren weiteren Sprachen sprechen beide auch ganz ausgezeichnet Deutsch) und die uns unter anderem kostenlos in ihrem Privatwagen zum nahegelegenen Strand von Tamarindo sowie nach Santa Cruz fuhren und mir außerdem ihre eigenen Medikamente gaben, als ich gegen Ende des Aufenthalts von einem starken Durchfall heimgesucht wurde (möglicherweise aufgrund des Essens in einem anderen Restaurant).

Überdies unterstützen sie mehrere Umweltschutzprojekte in der näheren Umgebung, von denen ich einige im gleich folgenden Bilderteil erwähnen werde.

I strongly guess this small wasp is parasitizing on the eggs of any much larger species. Which species, which eggs, which wasp? You guys, first of all I was not on 'duty', secondly on vacation and thirdly in Costa Rica, concerning whose flora and fauna I don't really have much knowledge and experience ... how relaxing it is not to be able and have to explain everything all the time. :-)

Ihr Leute, ich war erstens nicht im 'Dienst', zweitens im Urlaub und drittens in Costa Rica, bezüglich dessen Flora und Fauna ich nicht wirklich viel Wissen und Erfahrung aufzuweisen habe ... wie entspannend es doch ist, nicht ständig immer alles erklären können zu müssen. :-)

Unfortunately, the shot of this spider shows that a new phone with a better camera is now long overdue. Nevertheless, I found the photo interesting enough to post. The typical long, somewhat curved chelicerae indicate a male specimen and probably serve to keep the female under control good enough during mating to avoid being eaten from her.

Nichtsdestotrotz fand ich das Foto interessant genug, um es zu veröffentlichen. Die langen, etwas gebogenen Cheliceren deuten auf ein männliches Exemplar hin und dienen vermutlich dazu, das Weibchen bei der Paarung soweit unter Kontrolle halten zu können, um nicht selbst gefressen zu werden.

While there was good coffee, fresh orange juice, delicious fruit and egg in various forms every day, afterwards you could choose between the typical rice bean dish gallo pinto, homemade pancakes or waffles. Since the owners of the resort are very flexible, for the sake of variety I might ask for fresh salad or some cereals on a future visit.

Während es jeden Tag guten Kaffee, frischen Orangensaft, leckere Früchte und Ei in verschiedenen Formen gab, konnte man danach zwischen dem landestypischen Reisbohnengericht Gallo Pinto, selbstgemachten Pfannkuchen oder Waffeln wählen. Da die Besitzer des Resorts sehr flexibel sind, würde ich bei einem zukünftigen Besuch der Abwechslung halber vielleicht noch nach frischem Salat oder einem Müsli fragen.

The name "Mundo Milo Eco Lodge" is no coincidence. This can be seen, for example, in the fact that only metal, reusable 'straws' are in use here.

Der Name "Mundo Milo Eco Lodge" kommt nicht von ungefähr. Das sieht man beispielsweise daran, dass hier ausschließlich metallene, wiederverwendbare 'Strohhalme' angeboten werden.

Although there were also very good desserts, for example banana split, unfortunately, I didn't find a single photo anymore - the enjoyment probably simply made us forget to take some pictures. :)

Obwohl es auch sehr guten Nachtisch, z. B. Bananensplit, gab, fand ich leider kein einziges diesbezügliches Foto mehr - da ließ uns wohl der Genuß das Fotografieren schlicht vergessen. :)

I especially liked how the owners of Mundo Milo support or promote several environmental projects in the local area. For example, we were made aware of the turtle protection program, which I reported on in my previous post, by means of a booklet displayed in our room.

Besonders gut gefiel mir, wie die Besitzer des Mundo Milo mehrere Umweltschutzprojekte der nähren Umgebung unterstützen bzw. für sie werben. So wurden wir beispielsweise mittels eines in unserem Raum ausliegendes Heft auf das Schilkrötenschutzprogramm aufmerksam gemacht, über das ich im vorigen Post berichtete.

Another example is the reference to a project in which local people are initially provided with bee colonies free of charge. Instead of paying for them directly, they have to finance reforestation measures with the proceeds generated by the sale of honey.

Ein weiteres Beispiel ist der Hinweis auf auf ein Projekt, in dessen Rahmen Einheimischen zunächst kostenlos Bienenvölker zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Statt direkt dafür zu bezahlen, müssen sie mit dem durch den Honigverkauf erzielten Erlös Wiederaufforstungsmaßnahmen finanzieren.

After all, any guest who wants to can grab a big plastic bag, collect trash in the area, and then drop it all off at the resort. As someone who never tires of complaining about all the dirt dumped into the environment by people all over the world, it was thus time to stop complaining all the time and take action myself. :-)

Schließlich kann jeder Gast, der möchte, sich einen großen Plastiksack schnappen, in der Gegend Müll sammeln und das Ganze dann im Resort abgeben. Als jemand, der nicht müde wird, sich immer wieder über den vielen von Menschen überall auf der Welt in die Gegend gekippten Dreck zu beschweren, war es damit an der Zeit, nicht immerwährend nur zu meckern, sondern auch selbst zur Tat zu schreiten. :-)

This walking stick didn't want to miss the opportunity to take advantage of a rather unusual means of transportation.
