I need to keep in mind a list of enjoyable activities to turn to whenever that urge to go to a bar and drink comes up. This way, I can remind myself that I have simple and accessible alternatives to ease stress and boredom — the main triggers behind these recurring relapses.

While reviewing my list, I came across an interesting activity: “flying kites.”

I know it’s truly relaxing and enjoyable, but in my culture, adults rarely do it. Perhaps those with children can discreetly indulge in this pleasure under the pretext of teaching an old and cherished pastime. Another option would be to revive those kite contests (in my hometown, we call kites papagaios) that have long since faded from memory.

Preciso ter em mente uma lista de atividades prazerosas para recorrer sempre que surgir aquela vontade de ir a um bar beber. Assim, posso me lembrar de que tenho à disposição alternativas simples e acessíveis que ajudam a aliviar o estresse e o tédio — os principais gatilhos dessas recaídas recorrentes.

Ao revisar minha lista, encontrei uma atividade curiosa: “soltar pipas”.

Reconheço que é algo realmente relaxante e prazeroso, mas, na minha cultura, adultos raramente fazem isso. Talvez quem tem filhos possa se dar ao luxo de aproveitar essa diversão sob o pretexto de estar ensinando uma brincadeira tradicional. Outra possibilidade seria alguém reviver aqueles antigos concursos de papagaios (como chamamos as pipas na minha terra), que hoje estão quase esquecidos.
