To celebrate the birthday of my beloved wife, @kobold-djawa, we visited the "Samira by Chele Gonzalez" yesterday, an absolute gourmet restaurant located in a hotel complex, the Anya Resort.

"Chele" Gonalez is a top chef (and former DJ) who emigrated to the Philippines from northern Spain. In addition to his expertise in traditional Spanish cuisine, he was inspired by the ingredients and methods of food preparation used in the Philippines and fortunately, in 2022 also opened "Samira by Chele Gonzalez" in Tagaytay.

Zum Höhepunkt des Geburtstags meiner geliebten Frau, @kobold-djawa, besuchten wir gestern das "Samira by Chele Gonzalez", ein in einer Hotelanlage, dem Anya Resort, befindliches absolutes Feinschmeckerrestaurant.

"Chele" Gonzalez ist ein aus Nordspanien auf die Philippinen ausgewanderter Spitzenkoch (und ehemaliger DJ), der sich über sein Fachwissen bezüglich der traditionellen spanischen Küche hinaus von auf den Philippinen verwendeten Zutaten und Methoden der Essenszubereitung inspirieren ließ und glücklicherweise im Jahr 2022 auch das "Samira by Chele Gonzalez" in Tagaytay eröffnete.

Sitting in the restaurant, you have the pleasure of watching the chefs at work.

We opted for the 6-course set menu to be able to enjoy as many different dishes as possible.

Wir entschieden uns jeweils für das Sechs-Gänge-Menü, um uns einer möglichst großen Anzahl verschiedener Gerichte erfreuen zu können.

We used the short wait for the first appetisers to take some artistically significant commemorative photos. :-)

What is generally very pleasant in the Philippines is that water is always offered free of charge and topped up when needed.

Generell sehr angenehm auf den Philippinen ist, dass stets kostenloses Wasser angeboten und bei Bedarf immer wieder nachgeschenkt wird.

And already very soon the first drinks made it to the table. I savoured a delicious mango shake, while my daughter had opted for an orange juice.

At this point, I noticed two very positive things: firstly, the juice was a fresh drink with no added sugar and secondly, the straws were not made of plastic. As in the entire Anya Resort, care is also taken in the associated restaurant not to pollute the environment unnecessarily and to produce as little waste as possible.

Und schon standen die ersten Getränke auf dem Tisch. Ich ließ mir einen leckeren Mangoshake schmecken, während meine Tochter sich für einen Orangensaft entschieden hatte.

An dieser Stelle ist mir Zweierlei sehr positiv aufgefallen: Erstens handelte es sich bei dem Saft um ein frisches Getränk ohne Zuckerzusatz und zweitens waren die Strohhalme nicht aus Plastik. Wie im gesamten Anya Resort wird auch im zugehörigen Restaurant darauf geachtet, die Umwelt nicht unnötig zu belasten und möglichst wenig Müll zu produzieren.

"Salmon tartar on crispy tapioca cracker" was just the beginning of the fireworks of culinary delights that were about to explode upon us.

Together with the salmon tartar, we were served tasty "parmesan chees puff".

Next on the menu were satay skewers loaded with grilled Iberian pork.

Bulalo is a beef dish typical of Tagaytay, of which we were presented a small but delicious tasting amount in crispy tacos.

The ingredients of the next creation, local seabass "Tiradito" with avocado dressing, pickled shallots, cilantro oil, ikura, coriander and mint, were freshly chopped into the bowls right in front of us.

At the latest after savouring this perfectly (neither too tough nor too soft) charcoal-grilled octopus, I was certain to be just dining in Tagaytay's best restaurant - sooo delicious!

Spätestens nach dem Genuss dieses perfekt (weder zu zäh noch zu weich) auf Kohle gegrillten Oktopus war ich mir sicher, gerade im besten Restaurant Tagaytays zu speisen - einfach köstlich!

The red snapper with mint, sweet potato puree, aubergine and Thai basil tasted excellent and very aromatic.

Der gebratene Schnapper mit Minze, Süßkartoffelpüree, Aubergine und thailändischem Basilikum schmeckte ganz ausgezeichnet und sehr aromatisch.

The "oven glazed beef cheeks on a creamy wild mushroom risotto with black truffle" were very tender and harmonised perfectly with the full-bodied risotto flavour.

Die im "Ofen glasierten Rinderbäckchen auf einem cremigen Waldpilzrisotto mit schwarzem Trüffel" waren sehr zart und harmonierten vortrefflich mit dem vollmundigen Risottogeschmack.

The fifth course of the menu consisted of grilled beef tenderloin with creamed potato, burnt red cabbage, glazed apple, picklet shallot and mustard jus.

Although the individual portions seemed small, I realised how my stomach was slowly getting fuller and fuller. :)

Der fünfte Gang des Menüs bestand aus gegrilltem Rinderfilet mit Rahmkartoffeln, angeschmortem Rotkohl, glasiertem Apfel, eingelegten Schalotten und Senfjus.

Obwohl die einzelnen Portionen klein erschienen, merkte ich, wie mein Magen langsam immer voller wurde. :)

Last but not least came the dessert: a pineapple pavlova with roasted pineapple ice cream with cinnamon and cloves, macerated pineapple, cream cheese chantilly.

Zu guter Letzt kam der Nachtisch: eine Ananas-Pavlova mit geröstetem Ananaseis mit Zimt und Nelken, mazerierter Ananas und Chantilly aus Frischkäse.

Our wonderful evening was topped off with a latte.

Abgerundet wurde der unser wunderschöner Abend durch einen Milchkaffee.

But that wasn't all: at some point during the evening, our daughter revealed the reason for our visit to the extremely friendly and endearing restaurant manager - who then surprised us with a birthday cake at the very end!
Even apart from this nice gesture, I have rarely experienced such a perfect and courteous service.

Aber das war noch nicht alles: Unsere Tochter hatte irgendwann während des Abends der äußerst freundlichen und liebenswerten Restaurantmanagerin den Anlass unseres Besuchs verraten - die uns daraufhin ganz am Ende mit einem Geburtstagskuchen überraschte!
Auch abgesehen von dieser netten Geste habe ich nur selten einen derart perfekten und zuvorkommenden Service erlebt.

Believe it or not, having just got out of tricycle, our daughter fell asleep on a small stone wall outside our front door in the few minutes while we paid the driver after a truly eventful day. :)

Glaubt es oder nicht: Gerade erst aus Tricycle gestiegen, schlief unsere Tochter in den wenigen Minuten während wir den Fahrer bezahlten, nach einem wahrlich erlebnisreichen Tag, auf einer kleinen Steinmauer vor unserer Haustür ein. :)
