This was definitely one of those few anime series that I had been looking forward to seeing for a long time, even before it started airing last summer. While this may not come as a surprise to some of my readers, I must admit that I am a big fan of romantic stories, especially those in the huge anime industry. My fascination with **RomComs** is just as strong as my fascination with fantasy anime. So much so that the number of anime I've seen in this genre is almost similar to the number of isekais and other fantasy anime I've seen since I was a child. It's no wonder that my interest in an anime like the one I'm bringing you today is so obvious. **The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity** is one of those romance anime that doesn't stand out for its dramatic story, striking characters, or excessive amount of fanservice. It's the opposite of what we usually see in this industry when it comes to **RomCom** animes. Like everything else, every popular genre has both a positive and a negative side. As with the fantasy genre, romance can be divided into different types. There are the most popular ones, which almost always rely on fanservice, clichés, and generic plots. On the other hand, there are other types of romance anime that stand out for their stories full of deep themes and heartbreaking drama. >! Despite this, it achieved considerable success and popularity in this industry thanks to its story, which is somewhat different from what I've been talking about so far. If I had to categorize it in some way, I would say that **The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity** is one of those anime that are not what they seem at first glance. I would also say that it is an anime that can come across as somewhat cloying due to how romantic it is. It's not that I dislike this aspect of it, it's just that it's something that stands out in a certain way, especially considering its premise. Let's remember that this is the story of a high school student who is labeled a delinquent because he studies at a public academy with a bad reputation. At first glance, we would expect something related to the whole issue of delinquents in **Japan** and all that, but that's not the case here. The protagonist ends up being much friendlier and calmer than he appears at first with his height and scary look. But it's when **Rintaro** meets **Kaoruko** that all this changes, going from having very low self-esteem because of his appearance to the point of avoiding other people, to then starting to have more confidence in himself and in his friends, classmates, and closest family members. >! This, in turn, helps us quickly grow fond of each of the characters in this anime. Of course, their personalities and ways of being also help a lot to make this easier. It is not common to see such distinctive characters in most of today's **RomCom** animes, where they almost always replicate the same characters as always. For example, in the case of our protagonist **Rintato**, we do not see a useless or idiotic character as is always the case with the protagonists of other romance anime. >! Even so, these things will not prevent him from showing consideration and affection for a girl his age who is the complete opposite of him. We are talking about **Kaoruko**, a short, innocent girl who looks like a sweet little girl who loves her mommy, and who our protagonist falls in love with at first sight. But it is not only this girl's appearance that makes him change his mind, but also the unique way she treats him. **Kaoruko** sees in **Rintaro** what no one else has noticed at first glance. This helps our protagonist to have more confidence in himself and to start doing things and finishing them with determination and dedication, for love. This personally caught my attention because it is common that at some point in our lives we start doing things or follow a path and then stop halfway through and abandon it. In my case, this has happened to me many times, abandoning everything I decided to do at the time just because I thought I wasn't capable or that I would never achieve it in time. This low self-esteem that the protagonist shows us is what makes us feel familiar with him in this way. >! Not only that, but we also see how his actions and decisions serve as an example to those around him. This is another good thing about this anime, which doesn't neglect any of the secondary characters and manages to introduce and develop them at the right time. We can even see that our protagonist's parents take center stage in one of the most impactful episodes of this anime. I love this because we can see how even the brotherly and family love that surrounds our protagonists also has a positive effect on their lives. I highlight this mainly because no other popular romance anime does this, including the parents when developing or telling the story of our protagonists. We mostly see them in the background or even in the third plane in each story, which I personally think is unfair, but understandable. On the other hand, we must also talk about the issue of class distinction, or rather the prejudice that exists in this regard. In this anime, we see this prejudice at the beginning in the way **Kikyo**'s students look at and treat **Chidori**'s students. As the episodes progress, this disappears from the foreground, but the issue remains present. >! Por otro lado, también hay que hablar del tema de la distinción de clases o mejor dicho del prejuicio que hay en esto. En este anime vemos dicho prejuicio al principio con la forma en la que las estudiantes de **Kikyo** miran y tratan a los estudiantes de **Chidori**. We see misunderstandings, problems, and arguments at first, but then everything changes over time. It is at this point that we talk about the romance in this teen anime. To be honest, I admit that there aren't many romance anime with a relationship as innocent and tender as the one we see in **The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity**. Whether it's from his side or hers, there are moments when it's impossible not to vomit rainbows because of so much sweetness. This perfect blend of romance with common themes in its story is perfect. I repeat, I don't dislike this at all, since in this case we can see an innocent and pure relationship, but at the same time interesting due to the themes I have mentioned so far. Apart from this, we also see a development in this relationship, going from being mere acquaintances at the beginning to becoming friends and something more at the end. Here I would also like to highlight another good point about this anime, which is that we get to see a masterful and perfect ending to this teenage love story. Normally, in almost all **RomCom** anime, we see how the seasons end without any real progress between the main relationships or couples. Well, this is not the case here, as we can see a remarkable and even admirable progress between **Rintaro** and **Kaoruko** until the end. >! Si les soy sincero, admito que no hay muchos animes de romance con una relación tan inocente y tierna como la que vemos en **The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity**. Ya sea por el lado de él o de ella, hay momentos en los que es imposible no vomitar arcoiris por tanta dulzura. Aquí también me gustaría destacar otro buen punto que tiene este anime que es el de poder ver un cierre magistral y perfecto en esta historia de amor adolescente. Normalmente vemos en casi todos los animes **RomCom** cómo terminan sus temporadas sin ningún avance real entre las relaciones o parejas principales. One of the big surprises we got last summer was seeing the famous studio **CloverWorks** working on three major adaptations at once. Those in the know will surely remember that at that time we were able to enjoy the grand return of **My Dress-Up Darling** with its second season and **Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus**, another great romance anime that is unique in its style. But apart from this, we also had the broadcast of the anime that I brought you today. Its quality was remarkable, starting with the notable character design, detailed drawing styles, and a vivid and varied color palette. It also has its fluidity at certain moments in the anime, but it is not the most remarkable thing. The photography style, the detailed and colorful shots, and the mix of traditional animation (2D) with computer-generated environments (3D) also turned out very well. The visual effects don't stand out much as there are few episodes where this is required, but they still manage to raise the bar with the visual details in this anime. As for the sound effects, there's not much to say beyond that they are well added. Para los que saben, de seguro recordarán que en aquel entonces pudimos disfrutar del gran regreso de **My Dress-Up Darling** con su segunda temporada y **Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus**, otro gran anime de romance único en su estilo. Pero aparte de esto, también tuvimos la emisión del anime que les traje hoy. Su calidad fue de lo más destacable, empezando por el notable diseño de personajes, estilos de dibujo bien detallados y una paleta de colores vivos y variados. > > También tiene su fluidez en ciertos momentos del anime, pero no es de lo más destacable. El estilo de fotografía, los planos detallados y coloridos, la mezcla de animación tradicional (2D) con entornos hechos por computadora (3D) también quedaron muy bien. Los efectos visuales no se destacan mucho al tener pocos episodios donde se es requerido esto, pero aún así logran elevar la vara con los detalles visuales que tiene este anime. En cuanto a los efectos de sonido no hay mucho de qué hablar más allá de que están bien agregados. En donde sí se destaca es en la banda sonora gracias a momentos donde la música logra elevar el ambiente a un punto máximo y nunca antes visto.
