Greetings friends of Geek Zone, in all this time technology has been present in my life, I have had to acquire some tools that I have considered necessary to improve my content creation, besides providing me with many comforts at a personal level, something that has allowed me to taste the sweetness of new trends.

I have to admit that technology is not my forte, I have mentioned it before in my publications and among the wide range of opportunities that emerge daily in this field, sometimes I feel out of context and tend to resist the new. In the end, resistance to change doesn't defeat me, and although I struggle a bit, I am somehow getting introduced to the amazing tech world.

One of the things I am grateful to Hive and Geek Zone is the experience of the users who share valuable information with much dedication, thanks to this I have learned a lot, and of course, I owe them the improvements I have been able to achieve in the technological area. I think I have extended in my introduction to say that I found in part the solution to the exaggerated heating of my laptop, I call it my workhorse. When I say partly, I mean that other factors come into play, such as maintenance in all its branches.

It is well known that overheating is one of the negative points that goes against the useful life of electronic devices and for some time now I observed with concern how my laptop was practically boiling on the table. The heat it generated was impressive, to the point of affecting me. To alleviate my stress and avoid heat shock, I placed a fan, but my computer was still as hot as boiling water.

Thanks to the unboxings I have read in this community, I learned about the existence of cooling pads or fan cooler bases for laptops, since then I became obsessed with the idea of acquiring one. After much research, reading and searching, I decided to get one of these devices that have saved one of my most precious jewels. Yes, I had to read a lot about the subject before making my purchase, it also involved visiting many stores in my city that ended in a totally fruitless search, which is why I had to make my purchase virtually.

I was late in making my purchase because I was filled with doubts regarding the size of the Cooling pad in relation to the dimensions of my laptop, number of fans, rpm (revolutions per minute), speeds etc.. Reading some publications I followed some advice. If they are few fans these have to be big, if they are small, they should be several, not less than 1000 rpm, more than one speed and several options for height or tilt adjustment, these aspects as the most basic to be able to decide. The idea of helping my workhorse also included checking the number of vents and how closed or open they could be. Before I do the unboxing, I am going to introduce you to the equipment I want to protect and extend its lifespan.

# Meet my workhorse, Compaq Presario CQ61

This laptop traveled many miles to be with me at home, it is my faithful companion for content creation in Hive and also a precious heirloom next to my [Apple iPod touch 4th generation](). I bought it in Tenerife, Spain, on a vacation I enjoyed in 2009. Among its most relevant features I can mention, 15.6" screen, 4GB RAM, 320 GB hard drive, wi-fi, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 2.10GHz, a CD-Room drive, an HDMI port and 3 USB ports.

As you can see, it has few grilles and they are quite closed, this hinders the air flow and promotes heat accumulation. After studying all these factors, I made the purchase of the long-awaited fan cooler base, all to extend the life of my work tool.

# Unboxing

The purchase was made by Mercado Libre Venezuela and had a cost of 20$. I received my order in a box that I picked up by zoom, well sealed and without any problems or defects. Inside was the box where the base came, normal unsealed and with a fairly simple protective plastic. The Cooling pad came in a simple plastic bag, yes, the device was brand new. On the box you can see the brand, model, warranty seal and specifications.

Upon review, everything was in good condition, it came with a USB cable and no instruction manual. Among its most outstanding features I summarize that the base has several tilt angles, 4 to be exact, which can be easily adjusted, two fans of dimensions 140*140*15mm, which when they are turned on a neon blue light takes over them, it looks very nice in my opinion. They are 1000 rpm and although the seller told me that it had two speeds, it really has a button that is pressed only once both to turn on and off the Cooling pad.

It has two USB ports, one goes directly to the Fan Cooler base and the other is powered by the laptop power, which allows the fans to turn on.

This Cooling pad is very simple, the base is plastic, but the band for adjusting the different heights is metal. It also has a non-slip tab on the front for holding the laptop.

# My experience of use

The plastic of the base does not seem to me so strong but not so fragile either, that yes, I treat it with care to avoid undesirable accidents. The recommendations pointed to metallic materials for a longer life, however, for the price in question it is quite good in my opinion.

Revolutions per minute is directly proportional to fan spin and generally to noise, it's a whole subject of study that deserves a full post. The more revolutions per minute the Cooling pad has, the greater the ventilation, but there could also be more noise, 1000 rpm is in a good range and with a quite acceptable decibel level. It is not noisy at all, it is as if the fans were not on.

The most important thing, the heat dissipation, I tell you that it did manage to reduce the temperature, a lot compared to the use of the laptop without this base and it is just what I expected. When I work with it I usually do it for several hours, so I feel satisfied with the purchase because it fulfilled the objective. I clarify that it does not happen as in some anecdotes that I read over there, that it heats up just the same, it just takes a while to do it. With the coling pad I have noticed the difference, and not only that, I have taken into account another tip that helped me a lot, align the laptop grilles with the fans of the base.

Another thing I learned is that the laptop needs a tilt angle. When we work on a flat surface, the ventilation is obstructed, which opens the way for heat generation.

Another important point to consider for those who choose to buy a cooler of this type is the external temperature. Under a cool environment it is possible to maintain a good temperature in the laptop, however, the higher the external temperature, the higher the fan speeds need to be set. It means that the cooling pad is more necessary in summer, but not in winter. In my particular case, I have to turn it on all the time while using my laptop.

# Part of the problem is solved

With the fan coler base I managed to solve part of the problem because my Compaq Presario needs some maintenance, that's obvious, some thermal paste, a good blowing to clean it and improve its performance at software level. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find someone responsible, I don't give my workhorse to just anyone.

A few years ago I took my LG G2 mini cell phone for repair and the service technician removed the microphone part. When I made the claim, the person in charge charged me for replacing the part, what a nerve, according to him, I had thrown it away. Obviously I took a position on the case and he was obliged to replace it. Now do you understand me? In spite of everything, I do not lose hope of finding someone honest and responsible to continue enjoying my Compaq "dinosaur", as I sometimes affectionately call it.

Saludos amigos de Geek Zone, en todo este tiempo la tecnología ha estado presente en mi vida, he tenido que adquirir algunas herramientas que he considerado necesarias para mejorar mi creación de contenido, además de proveerme muchas comodidades a nivel personal, algo que me ha permitido saborear las mieles de las nuevas tendencias.

Tengo que admitir que la tecnología no es mi fuerte, ya lo he mencionado antes en mis publicaciones y entre el gran abanico de oportunidades que emergen a diario en este campo, a veces me siento fuera de contexto y tiendo a resistirme a lo nuevo. Al final, la resistencia al cambio no me vence, y aunque me cuesta un poco, me voy introduciendo de alguna manera al increíble mundo tech.

Una de las cosas que le agradezco a Hive y a Geek Zone es la experiencia de los usuarios que con mucha entrega comparten información valiosa, gracias a ello he aprendido mucho, y por supuesto, les debo las mejoras que he podido lograr en el área tecnológica. Creo que me he extendido en mi introducción para decir que encontré en parte la solución al exagerado calentamiento de mi laptop, yo la llamo mi caballito de batalla. Cuando digo en parte, me refiero a que entran en juego otros factores, como el mantenimiento en todas sus ramas.

Bien es sabido que el calentamiento es uno de los puntos negativos que va en contra de la vida útil de los aparatos electrónicos y desde hace un tiempo observaba con preocupación cómo mi laptop prácticamente hervía en la mesa. El calor que generaba era impresionante, al grado de afectarme a mí. Para aligerar mi estrés y evitar un shock por calor, colocaba un ventilador, pero mi computadora seguía tan caliente como cual agua en ebullición.

Gracias a los unboxings que he leído en esta comunidad, me enteré de la existencia de los cooling pad o bases fan cooler para laptops, desde entonces me obsesioné con la idea de adquirir uno. Luego de mucho investigar, leer y buscar, me decidí por uno de estos aparatos que han salvado unas de mis joyas más preciadas. Si, tuve que leer mucho sobre el tema antes de efectuar mi compra, también implicó visitar muchas tiendas en mi ciudad que terminó en una búsqueda totalmente infructuosa, razón por la que tuve que hacer mi compra de manera virtual.

Me tardé en hacer mi compra porque me llené de dudas respecto al tamaño del cooling pad en relación a las dimensiones de mi laptop, cantidad de ventiladores, rpm (revoluciones por minuto), velocidades etc. Leyendo algunas publicaciones seguí algunos consejos. Si son pocos ventiladores estos tienen que ser grandes, si son pequeños, deben ser varios, no menos de 1000 rpm, más de una velocidad y varias opciones para el ajuste de alturas o inclinación, estos aspectos como lo más básico para poder decidir. La idea de ayudar a mi caballito de batalla también incluía verificar el número de rejillas de ventilación y que tan cerradas o abiertas estás podían ser. Antes de hacer el unboxing, les voy a presentar el equipo al que quiero proteger y alargar su vida útil.

# Les presento a mi caballito de batalla, Compaq Presario CQ61

Está laptop viajó muchos kilómetros para estar conmigo en casa, es mi compañera fiel para la creación de contenido en Hive y también una preciada reliquia junto a mi [iPod touch 4th generación de la marca Apple](). La compré en Tenerife, España, en unas vacaciones que disfruté en el año 2009. Entre sus características más relevantes puedo mencionar, pantalla 15.6", memoria RAM 4GB, disco duro 320 GB, wi-fi, procesador Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 2.10GHz, una unidad CD-Room, un puerto HDMI y 3 puertos USB.

Cómo se puede observar cuenta con pocas rejillas y son bastantes cerradas, esto dificulta el flujo del aire y fomenta la acumulación de calor. Luego de estudiar todos estos factores, hice la compra de la tan anhelada base fan cooler, todo por alargar la vida útil de mi herramienta de trabajo.

# Unboxing

La compra la hice por mercado libre Venezuela y tuvo un costo de 20$. Recibí mi pedido en una caja que retire por zoom, bien sellada y sin ningún tipo de inconvenientes o defectos. Dentro se encontraba la caja donde venía la base, normal sin sello y con un plástico protector bastante sencillo. El Cooling pad venía dentro de una bolsa plástica simple, eso sí, el aparato estaba totalmente nuevo. En la caja se puede observar la marca, modelo, sello de garantía y las especificaciones.

Al revisar, todo se encontraba en buen estado, venía incluido u cable USB y no trajo manual de instrucciones. Entre sus características más resaltantes les resumo que la base cuenta con varios ángulos de inclinación, 4 para ser exactos, que se pueden ajustar fácilmente, dos ventiladores de dimensiones 140*140*15mm, que cuando están encendidos se apodera de ellos una luz neón en color azul, se ve muy bonito a mi parecer. Son 1000 rpm y aunque el vendedor me dijo que tenía dos velocidades, realmente cuenta con un botón que se presiona solo uno vez tanto para encender como para apagar el Cooling pad.

Cuenta con dos puertos USB, uno va directamente a la base Fan Cooler y el otro se alimenta de la corriente de la laptop, lo cual permite que los ventiladores enciendan.

Este Cooling pad es muy sencillo, la base es de plástico, pero la banda para el ajuste de las diferentes alturas es metálica. También cuenta con una pestaña antideslizante en la parte frontal para el sostén de la laptop.

# Mi experiencia de uso

El plástico de la base no me parece tan fuerte pero tampoco tan frágil, eso sí, la trato con cuidado para evitar accidentes indeseables. Las recomendaciones apuntaban a materiales metálicos para una mayor vida útil, sin embargo, para el precio en cuestión está bastante bien en mi opinión.

Las revoluciones por minutos son directamente proporcionales al giro de los ventiladores y generalmente al ruido, es todo un tema de estudio que merece una publicación completa. Entre más revoluciones por minuto tenga el Cooling pad, mayor será la ventilación, pero también podría haber más ruido, 1000 rpm está en un buen rango y con un nivel de decibeles bastante aceptable. No es ruidosa en lo absoluto, es como si no estuvieran encendidos los ventiladores.

Lo más importante, la disipación del calor, les cuento que si logró disminuir la temperatura, muchísimo en comparación al uso de la laptop sin esta base y es justo lo que esperaba. Cuando trabajo con ella realmente suelo hacerlo por varias horas, por eso me siento satisfecha con la compra porque cumplió con el objetivo. Aclaro que no pasa como en algunas anécdotas que leí por allí, que se calienta igual, solo que se tarda en hacerlo. Con el coling pad he notado la diferencia, y no solo eso, he tomado en cuenta otro consejo que me sirvió de mucho, alienar las rejillas de la laptop con los ventiladores de la base.

Otra cosa que aprendí es que la laptop necesita un ángulo de inclinación. Cuando trabajamos sobre una superficie plana, se obstruye la ventilación, lo cual abre paso a la generación del calor.

Otro punto importante a considerar para quienes opten por comprar un enfriador de este tipo, es la temperatura externa. Bajo un ambiente fresco es posible mantener una buena temperatura en la laptop, sin embargo, entre más alta sea la temperatura externa, será necesario ajustar mayores velocidades para los ventiladores. Significa que el cooling pad es más necesario en verano, mas no así en el invierno. En mi caso particular, tengo que encenderlo todo el tiempo mientras use mi laptop.

# Parte del problema está solucionado

Con la base fan coler logré solventar parte del problema porque mi Compaq Presario necesita un mantenimiento, eso es obvio, algo de pasta térmica, un buen soplado para su limpieza y mejorar su rendimiento a nivel de software. Lamentablemente, no he podido encontrar a alguien responsable, no le entrego mi caballito de batalla a cualquiera.

Hace unos años me ocurrió que llevé a reparar mi celular LG G2 mini y en el servicio técnico le quitaron la pieza del micrófono. Cuando hice el reclamo, el encargado me cobró por volver a colocar la pieza, que descaro, según él, yo la había botado. Obviamente tomé posición en el caso y se vio en la obligación de reponerla. ¿Ahora me entienden?. A pesar de todo, no pierdo las esperanzas de encontrar a alguien honesto y responsable para seguir disfrutando de mi Compaq "dinosaurio", como cariñosamente a veces le digo.
