Desde hace unos 23 años he estado enamorado de los elementos del circo y la danza acrobática, pues me han permitido experimentar la sensación del vuelo, la liviandad que solo la ausencia de gravedad nos hace sentir en nuestro cuerpo y alma.

For about 23 years I have been in love with the elements of the circus and acrobatic dance, as they have allowed me to experience the sensation of flight, the lightness that only the absence of gravity makes us feel in our body and soul.

Las acrobacias en tela, el trapecio fijo y las cuerdas fijas son recursos del circo que nos ayudan a crear esa sensación de altura, riesgo y fantasía alada, y con todas he experimentado en alguna medida, percibiendo en mí desde el miedo hasta el vértigo que siempre lleva consigo ese toque de morbo por lo desconocido, lo prohibido, lo extremo, la búsqueda de algo más allá.

The fabric acrobatics, the fixed trapeze and the fixed ropes are resources of the circus that help us to create that sensation of height, risk and winged fantasy, and with all of them I have experienced to some extent, perceiving in me from the fear to the vertigo that always carries with it that touch of morbidity for the unknown, the forbidden, the extreme, the search for something beyond.

En el año 2017 pude experimentar gracias a mi amiga Cristal Albornoz otro elemento aéreo que combina la danza y el circo de manera armónica; la danza vertical. Quedé prendado de esa sensación de vuelo, sobre todo por poder liberar mis extremidades del elemento ya que se está sujeto desde la cintura por un arnés, cuerdas y mosquetones de seguridad.

In 2017, thanks to my friend Cristal Albornoz, I was able to experience another aerial element that combines dance and circus in a harmonic way; vertical dance. I was fascinated by this sensation of flight, especially because I could free my extremities from the element, since it is held from the waist by a harness, ropes and safety carabiners.

La danza vertical ha traído a mi vida muchas alegrías de manera insospechadas, pues me enfrenta en cada práctica a mis propios miedos, a mis inseguridades mas primarias, puesto que luego de pasar la etapa del miedo por la seguridad física viene la lucha entre lo que conocemos como danza horizontal con sus códigos y movimientos creados, recreados y ya fijados, contra la libertad del movimiento puro que se quiere abrir paso en esa nueva perspectiva vertical.

Vertical dance has brought many joys to my life in an unsuspected way, since it confronts me in each practice with my own fears, with my most primary insecurities, since after passing the stage of fear for physical security comes the struggle between what we know as horizontal dance with its codes and movements created, recreated and already fixed, against the freedom of pure movement that wants to make way in this new vertical perspective.

Soy bailarín contemporáneo con ancladas raíces en lo tradicional y la danza moderna mundial, pero la danza vertical y el ejemplo y dedicación de mi compañero de arte y vida Marlon Alvarado me han abierto un sin número de posibilidades a la expresión nueva, al movimiento auténtico, desde las entrañas y al cielo abierto. Suspenderme sin alas en paredes de 30 metros es lo que a mis 46 años necesitaba experimentar para conseguir alzar el vuelo, disfrutar el aire envolviéndome, el sol acariciando mi rostro, los pájaros saludándome de cerca.

I am a contemporary dancer with roots in traditional and modern dance worldwide, but vertical dance and the example and dedication of my art and life partner Marlon Alvarado have opened up countless possibilities for new expression, authentic movement, from the entrails and the open sky. Suspending myself without wings on 30-meter walls is what I needed to experience at 46 years of age in order to take flight, to enjoy the air wrapping around me, the sun caressing my face, the birds greeting me up close.
