During the beginning of 2024 I've had the opportunity to play a couple of games that I liked quite a lot, usually it's hard not to like a game, but that's not the point right now, let's move on to the important thing, the game in question. Last October Ghostrunner 2 was released, the sequel to a game I already knew because I saw a friend playing it a few months ago, it was about a kind of cyborg that ran through walls and killed his enemies with a katana, if you use Epic Games you will know that during Winterfest they gave Ghostrunner (1), so I decided to play it and this is what I have to say about the game.

Ghostrunner is, simplistically, about what I said above, we are "someone" who wakes up without remembering anything about who he is, only with a voice that speaks to him and tells him that he must stop an immeasurable evil, Mara, also known as the Keys Keeper. But, in his current form our protagonist is very weak, he must recover the abilities of his people, the Ghostrunners, a group extremely skilled in combat and whose skills he has completely forgotten. Shortly after that we will start communicating with a girl who calls us "Jack", happy because "we finally woke up". If we pay attention to the cinematic before starting a new game, we will see a bit of why our character is so damaged in the first place, and it is that he already tried to confront Mara and failed, this one cut off his arm and then fell from the building where they confronted. This girl, Zoe, is part of the Climbers, a group that opposes Mara and they reassembled Jack as they could, adding parts that weren't their own and so he lost his abilities, basically a weaker version of himself, but that The Architect (that voice from the beginnin) would help improve as we progress through the game. But let's talk about the gameplay, this is a Hotline Miami style game in the sense that you get hit and you're dead, back to the checkpoint, its restarts are very fast so it doesn't feel heavy and that's why the game feels very fluid, you'll be trying and retrying until you get that area you're having so much trouble with. You can move in a 3D environment and jump with the ability to run on most surfaces horizontally, kind of like Prince of Persia but with robotic parts. Once you are in the air the magic begins, you can press Shift (on PC) to activate a kind of bullet time where you can also move left and right very quickly and thus avoid shots that come directly at you, at the end of the time you make a boost in the direction you are aiming. This boost can also be done on the ground but you can't activate the bullet time, so the game encourages you to be jumping around, running along the walls and generally moving as much as possible. In addition to all this, you can crouch and slide on the ground, it can help you dodge certain attacks or gain speed on slopes, a move just as important as all the others and that you are probably using a lot if you want to survive. As you progress through the game you will enter Cyberspace, a place where you can recover Jack's abilities, as well as expand a kind of "Tetris" where you can fit pieces that give you buffs in your skills, such as the possibility that the bullet time lasts longer, or that when you hit the projectiles with the sword you not only block them, but you can point to where to return them, a skill that I have used a lot. With all this, Ghostrunner is pretty much explained, a very arcade game with a story that is equally entertaining, and a soundtrack that fits like a glove, if you are looking for frantic experiences and not so extensive, Ghostrunner is definitely for you, for my part I could finish it in 6 hours and I died a lot of times, so anyone who has enough skill can do it in less time. Durante el inicio de 2024 he tenido la oportunidad de jugar a un par de juegos que me han gustado bastante, generalmente es difícil que no me guste un juego, pero ese no es el punto justo ahora, pasemos a lo importante, el juego en cuestión. El pasado octubre de 2023 salió a la venta Ghostrunner 2, la secuela de un juego que ya conocía porque vi a un amigo jugándolo hace algunos meses, trataba de una especie de cyborg que corría por las paredes y mataba a sus enemigos con una katana, si utilizan Epic Games sabrán que durante los regalos de navidad regalaron Ghostrunner (1), así que decidí jugarlo y esto es lo que tengo que decir sobre el juego.

Ghostrunner trata, simplificadamente de lo que dije arriba, somos “alguien” que despierta sin recordar nada de quien es, solo con una voz que le habla y le dice que debe detener a una maldad inconmensurable, a Mara, también conocida como la Guardiana de las Llaves. Pero, en su forma actual nuestro protagonista es muy débil, debe recuperar las habilidades de su gente, los Ghostrunner, un grupo extremadamente habilidoso en el combate y cuyas habilidades ha olvidado completamente. Poco tiempo después empezaremos a comunicarnos con una chica que nos llama “Jack“, feliz porque “finalmente despertamos”. Si hacemos caso a la cinemática antes de empezar una nueva partida, veremos un poco de por qué nuestro personaje está tan dañado en primer lugar, y es que ya intentó enfrentarse a Mara y fracasó, esta le cortó un brazo y luego cayó desde el edificio donde se enfrentaron. Esta chica, Zoe, es parte de los Climbers, un grupo que se opone a Mara y que reensamblaron a Jack como pudieron, añadiendo partes que no eran propias y por ello perdió sus habilidades, básicamente una versión más débil de sí mismo, pero que El Arquitecto ayudaría a mejorar conforme avancemos por el juego. Pero hablemos del gameplay, este es un juego estilo Hotline Miami en el sentido de que te tocan y estás muerto, a empezar desde el punto de control, sus reinicios son muy rápidos así que no se siente pesado y es por eso que el juego se siente muy fluido, estarás intentando y reintentando hasta que te salga esa zona que tanto te cuesta. Puedes moverte en un entorno 3D y saltar con la posibilidad de correr sobre la mayoría de las superficies de forma horizontal, algo así como el Príncipe de Persia pero con partes robóticas. Una vez estás en el aire empieza la magia, puedes presionar el Shift (en PC) para activar una especie de bullet time donde además puedes desplazarte hacia la izquierda y la derecha con mucha rapidez y así evitar disparos que vengan directamente a ti, al finalizar el tiempo haces un impulso en la dirección que estés viendo. Este impulso también puedes hacerlo en el suelo pero no puedes activar el bullet time, así que el juego te incita a estar saltando por ahí, corriendo por las paredes y en general moviéndote tanto como sea posible. Además de todo esto, puedes agacharte y deslizarte por el suelo, puede ayudar a esquivar ciertos ataques o ganar velocidad en pendientes, un movimiento igual de importante que todos los demás y que seguramente estés utilizando mucho si quieres sobrevivir. Conforme avances en el juego entrarás al Ciberespacio, un lugar en el que puedes ir recuperando las habilidades de Jack, además de ir expandiendo una especie de “Tetris” donde ir encajando piezas que te dan bufos en tus habilidades, como la posibilidad de que el bullet time dure más, o que al golpear los proyectiles con la espada no solo los bloquees, sino que puedes apuntar hacia dónde devolverlos, una habilidad que he utilizado un montón. Con todo esto ya quedaría bastante explicado lo que es Ghostrunner, un juego muy arcade con una historia que igualmente está entretenida, y una banda sonora que le va como anillo al dedo, si buscas experiencias frenéticas y no tan extensas, definitivamente Ghostrunner es para ti, por mi parte pude terminarlo en 6 horas y vaya que morí un montón de veces, así que cualquiera que tenga la suficiente habilidad podrá hacerlo en menos tiempo.
