Steemians!
This is my entry to the Culture Challenge hosted by if you want to participate you can read the rules in this link.
You can't talk about Mexico without thinking about Tacos.
So we are "El Team Gordo" a couple of mexican foodbloggers relatively new on Steemit (less than 100 days) and we're going to talk about maybe one of the most recognized food all over the world and the first you think about when someone says México.
Tacos!
If you guess it, you're going to love this post.
Definition: Taco is pretty much anything you make when you put something on a tortilla. Thats it!
And in México we love to put almost anything in a tortilla. In the photo on top you can see one of the most simple an delicious tacos the "Taco al Pastor" this is a must when you're in Mexico City and is very similar to a gyro, in fact it is inspired on it but evolved with a mexican touch. In the picture is accompanied by a Mezcal, that's not a tradition or very usual jaja i was just in the mood.
This is were tacos al pastor came from a "Trompo de Pastor" I have never met a Mexican who has not fantasized about biting one of these. This tacos are so yummy that I know vegetarians who make them their only meaty exception. To finish with the Tacos al Pastor I leave you this a taco smiling at you just saying "Eat me master!"
The next is a fancy taco its made with a blue corn tortilla (I know it is green but thats what it's called) with some Duck Carnitas (basically deep fried duck) onion, avocado and some green stuff on top. This was served in a kind of trendy/hipster restaurant in an upcoming, but now a little dangerous neighbourhood.
Next up a homemade typical dish "Tacos Dorados". They are stuffed with chicken must of the time, rolled in a nice tube and fried. Then they serve it decorated with sour cream, cheese, lettuce and tomato. These are very common in the mexican homes.
Now i give to you some "Shrimp Sinaloa Style Tacos". In this tacos, the shrimp is treated somewhere in the middle of a corndog and kfc chicken. They are deep fried and tosed over a tortilla.
These tacos are a great example that some times the things you put on top of the main ingredient are more important than the taco itself. Some establishments here in México are built around their sauces. Here they give you what looks like a naked taco and give you the freedom to add whatever you want from a kind of salad bar.
The next are some Gourmet Shrimp Tacos. Pretty much the same but with a lot of make up and more expensive ha ha.
This tacos are the perfect example of what americans think tacos are. I was surprised to get them in México, is not usual here but here are some taco shells. similar to the one's in Taco Bell. They are crunchy buy they're not tacos.
We also have some Fusion Tacos like this. It is a Corean Taco spiced with some Kimchi and accompanied by a corean side salad which name i can't remember. But was delicious.
For the grand finale we bring you these very complex and mexican tacos. This one has an open chipotle pepper, beef, a goat cheese sauce, nuts, peanuts and caramelized onions. These are one of our favourites on the city and have the superpower to make you sleep all afternoon: this is called here "El mal del puerco" literally translated to: The bad o the Pork ha ha! Its a joke term for us, its not a real disease but we call that the you eat so much that you just can't stay awake for all the food you just ate.
Well that's all for this post, we leave you with a photo of us with a happy face because we're about to eat.
