Mitchelton - Scott's TDU GC winner for the previous 2 years took the win on Mengler Hill, and with it a 43-second advantage over teammate, Lucy Kennedy, for the final two Stages!
After yesterday's surprise sprint victory from Trek - Segafredo's young Italian, Paternoster, today's Stage was business as usual as Mitchelton - Scott's Amanda Spratt put herself in great contention for her third TDU overall GC win in as many years.
The 116.7km-long route started with a very hectic and combative opening; Rebecca Wiasak (UniSA Australia) and Deborah Paine (New Zealand) made the break within 20km of the start, and quickly cycled into a 2 minute lead. Wiasak took the day's first intermediate sprint, as well as the second with 40km to go.
With just 7km remaining the breakaway duo were caught after some strong work on the front from Trek - Segafredo's Orange-jersey wearer Letizia Paternoster. The winning move came at the bottom of the Mengler Hill, with Kennedy attacking first and splitting the peleton creating a lead group of just 13 riders. Soon after, Spratt attacked and only Kennedy could stay with her - with Spratt pushing on for victory!
