Chris Froome lost a handful of seconds but ended up defending his red jersey once again on the summit finish of stage 14 in La Pandera.
Rafal Majka, who had been in the breakaway all day, took a sensational stage victory after a solo break on the final climb to ride over the line 27 seconds ahead of Miguel Angel Lopez.
Vincenzo Nibali came over in third, with red jersey wearer Chris Froome coming in 4 seconds behind him to lose only a small amount of time on a gruelling stage in the race. Nibali had been the most active at testing Chris Froome on the final climb, but was unable to make any big space between the two thanks to Wout Poel's brilliant pacing for Froome. It was bad news for Esteban Chaves, as the Colombian slipped from 3rd to 5th after being the first of the GC men to attack on the final climb.
The breakaway featuring a variety of riders at the start of the stage managed to build up an 8 minute gap to the peleton, which eventually ground itself down to only 1:45 at the start of the final climb - with only Majka surviving until then. Froome, gunning for a stage victory, was pushed on by Poels but did not have enough to bridge the gap to Lopez & Majka, with Majka taking the stage win.
