My helper buddy Farmer Sam was off school today!

This was a surprise to me. When I got home and he ran out to help, I about cried.

He helped with the feeding and watering, really our only chore for now.

The chickens really enjoy this section that I left unmowed. They rarely stray from it very far. I guess it harbors insects that they like to munch on. They eat the horseherb and dandelion there as well.

Maybe one day we'll be able to leave em out for longer than a few supervised minutes, but right now they're still small enough to be hawk bait.
