I'd never experienced a major Earthquake before, neither had anyone under 40 years old in Lombok. According to the local people the last memorable of earthquake was sometime in the 80's and even for this old man he said there was never an Earthquake as strong as this.... And that was the first 6.2 earthquake, only a week later we felt the force of a 7.0 earthquake.
Meeting this old man during such an alarming day was really calming. This man maybe well over 90 years maybe even 100 years old, he is regularly smoking tobacco yet is still in good health for his age. This just goes to show how long healthy people can live, that people from a previous generation, who didn't use pesticides or eat modern connivance food are a lot healthier later in life. He does not have an ounce of fat, he walks and is able to comfortably sit on the floor. Now young people are getting cancer from all kinds of toxins they are experiencing through 'modern' living.
One thing I noticed is that ‘modern’ food often sold on road side stalls and village shops sell lots of food packaged in plastic, sweets that do not degrade. These products are some of the cheapest and kids like to spend their pocket money on these item. I also noticed a lot of kids going around with a plaster on there cheeks, apparently because of tooth ache…. Which is a shame. On the postive side I also watched the kids forage for food, climbing papaya trees, and shaking other fruits trees, collecting as much as they can. By creating an organic farm intiative and sustainability project, we hope to encourage more of this! We want to see more people all over the world but especially our friends in Lombok to eat free food and wave baby to plastic wrapped convenience food. For their health & the environment.
