1. INTRODUCTION
I created this guide to help document the types and rank/level of items that you can buy in Erannorth Renaissance. This information was not readily available during my first playthrough so I started to keep track so that I could better plan when to spend my hard earned farthings on equipment upgrades.
Generally, the progression seems to be:
- Llanford / Heygrove / Keywick
- Ashwick / Lacris (despite being far away)
- Valetport
- Denham
- Hamor
- Doven
The best equipment can be found in Doven. The city does lack a horse rancher so you may need to occasionally revisit Valetport to purchase mounts.
What is surprising is that even though Lacris and Hamor are further away and have higher level enemies, the towns have worse equipment than Doven. Normally in games the later towns have better equipment. I would guess that this is probably be due to the simulation element of the game where Doven is the largest city and the capital whereas Lacris and Hamor are smaller cities in comparison.
Story mode takes you through a counter-clockwise progression starting in Llanford then going to Heygrove and passing through Keywick to get to Valetport. It then seems logical to pass through Ashwick to get to Denham and to then finally go to Doven. Afterwards, you may want to sail across the seas to get to Lacris and then Hamor.
However, Doven is actually pretty close to your starting location in Llanford. If you go west past Oxgate you will quickly reach Doven. While you certainly want to avoid hostile bands and monster lairs in Doven if you are low level, you can easily make a quick shopping trip if you can afford the premium prices. Thus investing in weapon proficiencies and stockpiling your gold means you can jump ahead with your equipment instead of buying intermediate gear in Valetport or Denham.
