I just finished a 53.778km cycle that lasted about 1hh:47mm:29ss !
Its now spring and we have been having some great weather. Its been ages since I took my time trial bike out for a ride, so with some races coming up, I needed to get out on the road and put some kilometers on my wheels. I have been working with the book, "The Time Crunched Cyclist" where I have been doing a lot more riding at higher intensities, but doing less.
Each week I get out on my bike(Mountain bike or Time Trial bike) and I feel like I am getting faster with each training session. One problem though, it has been a long time since I have used my Time Trial bike and feel like I am really slow compared to where I used to be back home in Melbourne. I am hoping this is just a matter of perspective where I am not properly comparing "apples with apples". As well I need to remember Auckland roads are really rough, causing a lot of rolling resistance when riding. I am not longer group riding either, so I don't have the luxury of sitting at the back of a pack when things get a little windy or rough.
Today's session was a:
- 20 minute warm up
- 10 minutes at high intensity
- 6 minutes recovery
- 8 minutes at high intensity
- 6 minutes recovery
- 10 minutes at high intensity
- 6 minutes recovery
- 8 minutes at high intensity
- 6 minutes recovery
Not exactly the same as the sessions from "The Time Crunched Cyclist" but it was tweaked a little to match the area I was riding on.
I have races coming up in November an December, so it will be awesome to have a clear view of where I am and knowing I will still have about three months before my "A" race of the season, IronMan New Zealand.
