Simple Right???
Oh by the way did you check the Prize pot from last week?? Also did you see this week is the same? Not only 3 SBI but another 20 Steem in prizes on top of that!!! Dang that is some Juicy winnings if I do say so myself. Well I had better get off this FFF food line and get to my Contender for be week. Wait... what Round are we in??? 45???
This week I was all over the place and didn’t have any main food subject I focused on. Go figure right?? Me all over the Place?!?! So why not have a little bit of everything this week as my Contender. I’m bringing a barrage of food that will hit you from every angle. The only thing in common between all of them is... they will be leaving you in a Food Coma for a Week minimum!! Ok enough of the Goulash talk and let me show you some serious Splatts Style Food Fight Friday action.
First thing on the menu is of course MEAT!! Now this isn’t just any meat... nope!! This is Wild, Pacific Northwest Duck and Goose meat we are talking here. You know pretty much the finest on the world. Hellllloooo. :wink:wink. Harvested by another member of that Splatts Family, that I would say is a little Crazy about Duck and Goose hunting. Yes, he is one of my older brothers and yes I did have to bully him and steal some Duck/Goose meat from him. AKA kick his... alrighty then.... You know like taking another kids lunch money... simple. I’m kidding, Honestly he comes to visit once in a while and every now and again he comes with some tasty gifts for the Family. The only way I have ever had Duck or Goose is jerky’ed. My Brothers Jerky is AMAZING!! he makes all his own spices and marinades. Dude has some real talent when it come to BBQin’ and that sort of thing. He BBQs me under the table!! When he is BBQin’... I’m there!!
First thing is to slice the meat into stripes, put them into a bag to marinade. This Duck and Goose meat needs to marinade for 3-4 days.
I just used some store bought teriyaki marinade this time. My brother doesn’t share any recipes, because he doesn’t have any. He just throws a little of this and a little of that together a d BAM it’s delicious. Normally I like a little spice or kick to my jerky, but the kids aren’t too fond of the spicy kick. This is kid friendly jerky but the parents will love it too. I promise. Just throw that bag of meat in the back of the fridge and forget about it (mafia voice).
So what do I do for the next few days while I am waiting for that Duck and Goose meat to soak up those delicious teriyaki flavors? Ummm... How about hammer down 2 Man-Sized Homemade Burritos. That sounds like a brilliant idea doesn’t it??
- Beans
- Rice
- Ground Beef
- Cheese
- Lettuce
- Onion
- Tomato
- Avocado
- Habanero Sauce
I couldn’t even wrap this up like a burrito, it was too overloaded. Kind of like what I like to do to my Truck when I am cleaning out the side yard from last years pool dig... I only want to make one trip. A truck bed full of dirt and a Mini Excavator in Tow.
This was more like an oversized taco than a burrito at this point. With one down the hatch...
I knew I had room for one more. I was still hungry, and when I am hungry I eat. Isn’t that what you are suppose to do??
With Burrito #2 3/4 of the way down in my garbage disposal. That is what my Mom used to call me as a kid. I would finish off everyone’s leftovers from dinner. HeHeHe. That last 1/4 was a challenge to finish.
But I couldn’t let my FFF fam down... NOPE I had to finish this 2nd burrito. Food Coma here I come!!
I ain’t gonna lie... I was hurtin’ after that. Bad idea??? NOPE!! I call it the The perfect idea. I slept like a baby that night I barely woke up to my alarm.
HMMMM... What’s next on the menu??? How about that thing we call Breakfast. You know Pancakes, Eggs, and Bacon. Ya, the traditional American Breakfast. Only difference is I used a couple Duck eggs instead of Chicken eggs... and they were cooked in the bacon grease.
This combo of food just goes so well together. It doesn’t matter if a little syrup gets on the bacon, it still tastes good. What about some egg yoke on the pancake? Still tastes good!! What about some bacon dipped in syrup, with some egg on it and a chunk of pancake?? DELISH!!
Now, back to that jerky!! After 3 days of marinating it was time to fire up the Green Mountain and get the smoke rollin’!! Set the temp at 150F and place all that marinated Duck and Goose Meat on the Grill. I made sure to let a lot of the marinade drip off before putting it on. It makes a big mess inside the grill.
After 4-5 hours it was time to give the meat a flip. With the thickness and size of each piece being so different, I had to take a peak and pull the smaller pieces off and allow the bigger ones to smoke longer. Remember, it will continue to cook after you remove it from the grill/smoker. So when it seems like it needs a little longer, pull it off.
I haven’t done Duck/Goose jerky in a while and the last time I did it I used my Little Chief Smoker. I was a little hesitant about using the big pellet grill for it but man was I ever wrong!!
Just set that temp and let the Green Mountain do its thing. It is sooo easy. With the Little Chief you had to keep putting in wood chips and rotating the racks around. Good flavor but a lot of work. Not really, it just wasn’t as easy as the Green Mountain.
I took some jerky to work and shared with the guys. At first they were like, “Duck Jerky??? Ummmm...” then after one bite they were asking for another piece. So I take that as a mission accomplished!!! I mean I liked it and so did the family but how did the other meat enthusiasts like it, was the real question.
I couldn’t involve a contender in this Food Fight without some sort of back up. Something I swear everyone loves.... Strawberries!! I have over 30 strawberry plants and they are just now starting to produce a lot of Strawberries. My last haul wasn’t too impressive. It was basically a little over a handful. Then just a couple days later...
It was time to get a bigger container than my hands to gather up all these delicious strawberries.
I initially was going to do my Food Fight Friday post in a D.Tube video but decided to go this route and post a D.Tube video about it.Double it up!! No not really, I will edit this post and add a link the video to it later today.
