Imagine that!! I have got some time this morning to knock me out a Food Fight Friday post that will leave you all bakin’ beggin’ for mercy!!! Probably not, but it sounds tough right??? Wait until you see the tires I’m getting put on my Ford Excursion, now that is tough :wink:wink Anyway how are my Food Flingers doin’ today? I hope everyone had a great week!!! I was out of town at the Washington Governor’s Safety Conference this week. A little boring, a little exciting, interesting, with a couple food comas on the side. I mean when your company is paying for your food.... I’m gonna eat!! Well I eat like this anyway so I guess it isn’t so different.
It’s close to 5 hours to get to the conference, and a fellow Lineman and I know exactly where to stop on the way. You see there is this burger joint called Miners in Yakima, Washington. For some odd reason they call this place the “Palm Springs” of Washington.... umm ya... No... Not Even Close! Yet, if you want a Monster Hamburger you gotta travel to Yakima and experience Miners!!
This place is legendary, when participating in sports in middle school and high school we would travel to Yakima for games. After the games bus loads of kids would would have this place overflowing!! It’s was one of those places that all of us would look forward to eating at. Their milkshakes are amazing, tater tots and fries cooked to perfection, and burgers the size of a teenager’s head!!
Don’t you hate it when you just can’t seem to get a photo that does the object you are photographing any justice. Well I am dealing with this exact problem. From the tip of my pinky finger to the tip of my thumb is 9 inches. There maybe that helps. Then you add in the fact that there are 2 patties, lettuce, tomatoe, onion, cheese and bacon. Now that is a burger!!!
Even though I really wasn’t feeling to hungry at that time, I just couldn’t let myself walk away from this Mighty Miner Burger. As I sit there two-handing this beast of a burger I wonder what it looked like when when I was a kid eating this same burger. Little hands struggling to hold all the fixings inside, then when taking a bite burger, the size of it would eclipse my whole head. The other people inside Miners must have been impressed to see me eat this bad boy at the age of 12. Still to this day, I can devour the Big Miner Double With Bacon!! It’s a little more uncomfortable these days but I can still do it!! I don’t make it here very often so I tend to celebrate with a good Food Coma. Thank God I wasn’t Driving!!! Lol.
This is where things get a little exciting!! Well to me they do anyway. Watching my fellow Lineman participate in the Hurt Man Rescue competition was awesome!! This competition doesn’t just involve getting an injured dummy off a pole. There is a whole scenario they have to go through. Any mistakes and your 2 man team is disqualified, just like in real life. One mistake and you are dead!! From eliminating all hazards to ensure your safety while you attempt to rescue the hurt-man, to the specialized dummy that calculates the chest compressions while doing CPR. This is intense!!! Also this isn’t done with a bucket truck, it’s done out of the hooks. Super fun to watch when you have an understanding of what is going on.
Now I can’t wait until we get to build one of these for our company. This is an Arc-Flash Demo Trailer. It is used to educate the public of the dangers of Powerlines and reasons why your power may be out.
Being that I have a good buddy of mine that works for the company that owns the trailer, I got some great info to aid in building our own. I can’t wait until I can have some Lineman Style fun with our custom Arc-Flash Demo Trailer we are going to build. It is going to be a lot of fun taking it to local schools and fairs to educate the public and keep them safe.
Okay Okay let’s get back to some more food action shall we? Sorry I get distracted easily, like a dog when it sees a squirrel, you know what I mean?! With day 1 of the conference compete we headed to this old restaurant called The Swiss. It sits right on the corner in downtown Tacoma. I’ve been here before but my buddy I was here with hasn’t. They have awesome burgers and some great beers on tap. Not to mention the variety of grilled sandwiches and other entrees. Since I had that huge Big Miner Double with Bacon the day before, I went with The Ruben Sandwich and a Mac n Jacks Amber ale.
With a side of tater tots followed by second glass of beer, I was ready to hit the hotel room and take a nap!! Sitting in classes most of the day, followed by a meal like this, puts me out!!! We left just in time because some people were gathering in there for some environmental discussion group or something and they really wanted us to stay. Trust me, I know better than to get involved in that. I tend to have a little more common sense view of things compared to what they had on their little agenda sheet. Welp, We Outta Here
Looks like I am just about outta here also. My Excursion is sitting on a new set of skins and lookin’ good!! Besides the fact that it needs to be washed horribly bad!!
Before We headed back home the next day, we caught dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. This place is always good no matter what city it is in. I’ve eating at this place in probably 5-6 different cities in multiple states and the food is always Top Notch! This go around I decided on the classic Fish -N- Chips. Their breading on the fish is so light and crispy. I hate it when it is super thick and doesn’t have any crunch. I gotta have that crunch followed the juicy tender fish...
Well the timing of this couldn’t have worked out any better. I’m wrapping up this Food Fight Friday post and my Excursion now has a new set of tires on it. It’s amazing how much a chunk of rubber costs these days. Lol.
Now it’s time to enjoy a late breakfast consisting of and English muffin, stuffed with egg, bacon, ham and cheese!! Happy Food Flingin’ my fellow food lovers.
Until Next Time...
