The human, excited for all the sugarcane, gets to work, on their off hours, refining it all and making paper and other products out of the sugarcane, as well as having far more than a hundred pounds of refined sugar to work with. This is gonna be fun! What to DO with it all??

Happy Humans are scary creatures. It's the cackling. It does it every time.
Human Thal had been making hand-cranked machines for days, now. Cackling in glee as progress continued towards an inevitable conclusion. For the record, the singing didn't help their crewmate's morale.
"Sugar... Ah, honey honey. You are my candy giirrRRRlll! And you got me wanting yooooooou..." Human Thal could not, as the Humans often said, hold a tune in a bucket. This did not stop them from trying. Under their hands and allegedly serenaded into existence, some scary-looking machines came into being.
The appropriately-named Mangles were first, crushing the lengths of cane and running sweet-smelling liquid into waiting vessels, but first through a filter to be rid of debris. From there, it went into a boiler to concentrate the results until precipitate formed.
The result of that was spun in a centrifuge. Experiments would occur to the liquid, the solids would be melted in another boiler and filtered anew.
The result was a fine white and sparkling powder. And, because Human Thal just could not be stopped once they started, there was also the threatened candy-scented paper. In assorted colours.
The paper was heart shaped.
"Get it?" said Thal. "Sweetheart papers! For all the friendliest messages between companions and crew."
It was paper. Made of real farmed organic cellulose. In the right circles, it was worth a fortune. Human Thal had made it by hand and gave it away for free.
This was why Humans were classified as insane.
"What do you plan to do with the sugar?" wondered Companion Fai. "You said something about 'dessert crafting'?"
"Oh yes. You can do things with sugar. I've been watching videos. Sugar roses, sugar butterflies. Marzipan, buttercream, fondant. Sure, I'm gonna get burns but it's gonna be such fun!"
Humans. The Powers That Be had to love them. There were so many like them.
