While Star Trek was never supposed to end, The Undiscovered Country, sixth part of the original film series, represented one of the best endings in the history of Hollywood. Made for the 25th anniversary of the original TV series and with fiasco of Final Frontier fresh in anyone's mind, the film had Nicholas Meyer, author of celebrated Wrath of Khan, back at director's helm. The script is heavily influenced by the ending of Cold War and the plot begins with cataclysmic event that forces Klingon Empire to sue peace with its old enemy United Federation of Planets; old crew of USS Enterprise is forced to deal with dangerous conspiracy determined to sabotage delicate negotiations. Members of the cast, aware that it would be their last feature film together, deliver one spectacular ride in the sunset, while Meyer provides excellent combination of action and drama, with few over-pretentious or misplaced Shakespeare quotes as the only thing to stand in the way of Star Trek perfection.
