Paid motivation
There are times where the value of a personal trainer really comes into its own. For me it is times like this. I hadn't trained properly week, for one reason or another and this week I was feeling super-demotivated. Yes I got up and did my early morning runs, however each time I was super relieved it (and my exercise for the day was over).
Mental workout
However today, I got in a great gym session with Ivar. Physically I've pushed myself harder however today was important because of the mental journey I undertook. I got the workout done even though I was super demotivated to train. Left to my own devices I would have found one of a million 'better things to do.' I would have had good justification too. However having a PT session booked made me accountable. I was going to get on that tube, get to the gym and train.
Endorphin-less
As I mentioned yesterday, the anticipation is the killer because once I get going my body goes into autopilot. I give the maximum I can give in the moment. Afterwards, I just felt tired. It would be easy to lie and talk about 'endorphins kicking in' however not today. Today was simply money in the bank.
Consistent grind
I have period like this. Periods where I want to be doing everything but working out. The temptation is to sit on the sidelines. The secret is to dial it back however maintain the consistency. I believe it is in times like this that true growth happens. The ability to persevere when it gets hard. To do the right thing even when you aren't seeing results. That's when arming yourself with the proper tools is crucial. One of those tools is a good personal trainer or coach. It takes the decisions around working out out of my hands. I show up out of obligation. I grind. I grow.
