If you are familiar with CrossFit you know that there are some pretty technical gymnastics moves that some workouts require such as the bar muscle up and the ring muscle up to name a couple. These moves are extremely complicated and take tons of practice to perfect. Well in April of 2018 I was able to get my first bar muscle up, and I was on cloud 9 after I hit this achievement.
When I first started my fitness journey I never would have imagined what my body was capable off. With continued hard work and good nutrition I continue to see improvements daily. I have been practicing this movement since April and I am still nowhere near proficient at it, but I have gotten to where I can consistently do bar muscle ups even if they are not the prettiest. So on Friday June 1st, 2018 it was test day, to really see how far I had come with this movement. I logged on to Wodify our gyms app that we use to see the workout for the day.
The workout on June 1st was a 15 minute amrap (as many rounds/reps as possible) of
12 deadlifts at #155
9 hand release push ups
4 bar muscle ups
So long story short I was extremely happy with my performance, because this was the first time I had done this movement during an actual workout and under fatigue. I was able to complete three full rounds and 22 reps in fifteen minutes. So I did a total of 13 bar muscle ups which I was very happy with and gave myself a big pat on the back for that performance. I recorded the workout and attempted to upload it to Dtube but was not successful so I took a couple screenshots from the video. I did the best I could do to just try and show off my accomplishment.
In closing hard work pays off, and there is no shortcut to achieving your goals no matter what they are. If you would have told me when I started doing CrossFit that I would be bar muscle ups in a workout I would have laughed at you. Once you get your mental game right and started moving towards your goals you will amaze yourself at all the things you can accomplish.
