Yes, my weight went up—that much I figured. But the real surprise was that my body fat percentage stayed flat. That meant one thing: while I did gain some weight, it wasn’t just fat. I also built muscle mass, which has been one of my core goals all along.
All that time I committed to weight training while traveling clearly paid off, even with the added carbs.
Rethinking Carbs and Strength
This has me rethinking how I approach my diet moving forward. For so long, I viewed carbs as a slippery slope. But the scan results showed that with the right activity and focus on strength training, carbs don’t have to be the enemy. In fact, they may be fueling better progress than I expected.
Since getting back home, I’ve kept carbs in my diet while staying focused on lifting heavier and building strength. It still feels a little uneasy—old habits and fears die hard—but the numbers and my energy levels are encouraging.
Looking Ahead
This experience has given me a new perspective on balance. Travel, food, and fitness don’t have to be at odds. With consistency in training and a willingness to adapt, progress can still happen—even in the middle of a vacation filled with pasta and bread.
For now, I’ll keep testing, tracking, and adjusting. But this first scan after Italy has left me both relieved and motivated. What I thought would be a setback might just turn into the breakthrough I needed.
