Warning: this is a bit of an epic #FollowFriday with loads of people to check out.
It's been quite a week. Last weekend a discussion with led to the start of the #TenKMinnow project. The simple aim is to boost the number of minnows on #Steem. The number has been stuck around 9200 for ages and it would be great to add another digit to that number. So far we have had the following posts from me:
The following #redfish and #minnows contributed to some very active discussion on those posts. Please give them some support, even if it is just upvoting their comments.
I have been dedicating a lot of my votes this week to people with under 500 SP (and some just over that). It makes a lot more difference to them than to those with thousands, who generally do okay.
Others have done posts about it:
Of course has been very supportive. He really pushed me to do more and last night he ran the 60 Minutes of Steem radio show to discuss it, with
helping out. That put me on the spot as I had to try to express what it was about. We had about fifty people listening in with the following taking part:
represented
who give out votes to good posts.
is a witness and active on various projects.
introduced me to the Redfish Power UP League which has very similar aims. I think there is definite potential to work together.
has been marketing Steem for a while and organised 60 Seconds of Steem
is behind
which is working to bring businesses to Steem. This will be vital to its success, but we need to provide them with a decent audience and that means keeping the users we get as well as gaining more.
was new to me, but another thoughtful person.
The key themes from the discussion were the need for communities (with or without platform support) as hubs for people to congregate around and support each other, use of contests (that need ways to reach those who could benefit from them) and making use of the supportive dapps that hand out votes. We can continue this discussion on Steem itself. You can hear the show here.
My other event this week was the London Meetup organised by . Attendees were:
who is a prolific photographer and video maker.
lives up to his name and brought us some great rye bread.
is a very new Steem user who makes music, paints (interested in selling pictures for Steem) and paraglides.
and his wife
are long-standing Steemians who you ought to know already.
is a bit of a force of nature. You have to hear her laugh ;)
has been here since the early days and is another key part of the community.
came all the way from Rotterdam to be with us.
mixes English and Chinese on her posts, so can reach an even wider audience.
is a traveler, free spirit and another paraglider. Always cool to spend time with her.
is a photographer, artist and vegan who posts about all of those topics.
is a very thoughtful guy. I have the best conversations at Steem events.
posts about travel and shares his photos. I wondered how we would get on as I had flagged some of his posts that were over-using bots, but he was cool.
is not posting much, but he curates and comments.
It was a very international gathering with people originally from Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania and other lands.
I think that should be plenty for you to check out, but please consider giving the smaller accounts some extra support. Some of them are very close to minnow level (500 SP), so we can help get them over that threshold and on to greater things.
Please share your own suggestions in the comments or your own #FollowFriday post.
