Hello there Steemians!
I haven't been as active as I would like these days I been movin a lot trying to find the perfect place for me to live. The fact of not having a home was very difficult for me to concentrate and focus on. Fortunately I have found a home where I can flow, I feel comfortable and happy. So now I have my space where I can drink a cup of tea while writting for this amazing community.
As you guys know, I'm from Yucatan and the habanero has been an essential element in our cuisine in Yucatan. It's like the tortillas, there is not a day when there is no habanero on the table at lunchtime.
But why do we like habanero so much if it is so spicy?
The ferocity of a chile is measured in units known as SHU (Scoville Heat Units). Habanero peppers range from 200 thousand to 500 thousand Scoville units. It is worth mentioning that some habaneros are more spicy than others.
The habanero has a chemical component called capsaicin which is found in the seeds and veins of chilies, this substance is responsible for that burning sensation in the mouth.
Capsaicin, when in contact with saliva, binds to the receptors called TRPV1 in the mouth and on the tongue. The transient potential receptors V1, (TRPV1) are proteins that are part of our nervous system that are involved in the transmission and modulation of pain. The main function of those in the mouth is to detect the sensation of pain when something is very hot. So the signal that TRPV1 sends tells the brain literally that the mouth is burning.
When we eat spicy we release a substance called endorphin. Endorphins are natural, analgesic opiates that our bodies sometimes release in response to the habanero's extreme spicy. Like opiates, it induces a sense of happiness. So eating extremely hot chili peppers is a way of seeking emotion that fuels our brain's desire for stimulation.
Besides that feeling of burning mouth, habenero also makes our eyes get watery, our heart beats faster and we begin to sweat, the body temperature of the body rises after seconds then after all that show you begin to feel pleasure, body and mind enter a state of relaxation and happiness.
But beyond the pain and its perverse pleasures, the habanero also have other uses...
Health
The habanero have a high mineral content and is also rich in vitamin C, which improves the absorption of iron, also helps in the production of collagen which is essential for hair, skin and nails. Capsaicin kills bad bacteria and intestinal parasites and some people use chili peppers and powders to clean their bowels and cleanse the digestive tract. The habanero is also used to heal wounds.
Security
One of its uses is the elaboration of pepper gas, which is used as a personal defense tool because when sprayed it irritates the eyes, causing even temporary blindness, pain and burning. The active ingredient is not pepper but capsaicin, which is extracted, processed and compressed in aerosol.
Shipping industry
Among the properties of the capsaicin there is also an anticorrosive property which is why it is ideal as a varnish to cover the hulls of the boats and thus avoid the algae from sticking to them.
Sexuality
Habanero is a powerful aphrodisiac. Capsaicin is a natural vasodilator that helps increase blood flow and therefore libido.
Right? Lose the fear to the Habanero and give it a chance!!
Much Love,
Ana.
