For the last couple of months we've been buying Bella's food. We get the Only Organic brand which she loves and at the moment we're trying out the Macro Organic range.
But since Hubby went to out fave butcher last week to get some lamb cutlets (for the barbie, for the grans last weekend) I asked him to get us some grass fed beef bones so I could make bone broth for Bella
It's funny cos I was so focused on getting the bones that I totally forgot to get veggies, but luckily I had an onion in the cupboard and carrots growing in the garden.
Another thing I forgot about was my oven~less situation. Our oven died last year and we haven't bothered to replace it. Last time I used it, I think, I browned bones for the broth. (You guys remember all the bone issues I had during my pregnancy last year and how bone broth helped with it?)
My work around was to brown the bones by frying them in organic coconut oil.
I then chucked everything (browned bones, carrots and onion) in the slow cooker and let it simmer from 2pm to 12pm.
I let it cool a bit before straining the liquid and separating the carrots and beef.
With the broth ready, all I need to do is put a bit of carrot, beef, broth and cooked quinoa in a bowl and smash it with a fork.
And that's pretty much it!
Even thought she still doesn't have teeth I think she's at the stage where she can handle soft food that she can gum her way through.
Flavour wise it's not the tastiest thing but it's healthy. Texture wise I think she's entertained by the quinoa. Overall she doesn't hate it.
The bone broth, I think, taste alright considering everything, but I reckon definitely needs more veggies for flavour.
I've got more bones so I'll let you guys know how the next batch goes.
Would you recommend adding salt and pepper? I held off adding those knowing I was making it for Bella.
If you have suggestions on how to make it tastier for her please pop it in the comments š
