Ok...nobody calls me that but I was thinking about taking that name here on Steemit. Maybe create a waffle coin when SMT’s hit?!? No?!? Ok...
A few days back, I had a severe craving for some delicious authentic Belgian Liege Waffles. I’m talking about the real deal that my wife and I devoured countless times on our trip over to Europe a couple of years ago. It was my first time ever making across the pond and I was in heaven. We started the trip in Dublin for my dear friend’s wedding. Then flew to London. Took the Chunnel to Brussels...hopped a train to Bruges...then another up to Amsterdam. It was an amazing and magical trip that I’ll never forget...Unless I get Alzheimer’s. But this post is strictly about one thing. WAFFLES!
I remember walking the streets in Bruges and Amsterdam and seeing waffle shops all over the place. Especially in Bruges. The streets there smelled sweet and inviting and shop after shop offered their take on the tasty snack. My favorite way was with fresh berries and creme. Sometimes with a smidge of chocolate because...well...why the hell not?!?
I must have eaten 25 waffles that week from different places. You would think I’d have been waffled out but NO! Upon returning I started looking up recipes and toying around myself as the wife bought me a nice new waffle maker to play with. It’s been a while, over a year in fact since I’ve made em and the other day I just got the bug and decided to dive in again.
So this morning on my day off, I decided to take the waffle dough out of the fridge and treat myself to some pure yum. So I got the maker and all the ingredients out and got started.
If you’ve never had these before, the first thing that might look odd is that you are looking at 2 balls of dough and not a batter. That’s how these are made and there are chunks of pearl sugar mixed in as well. These kinda caramelize and make for an added crunchy punch when enjoying these.
Got all the berries out. Today I’m using sliced strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Also have a container of fresher homemade whipped creme that my wife whipped up 2 days earlier.
While I got the berries ready, I popped these two bitches onto the waffle maker. They are so good...ever my creepy ass cat came to see what the fuss was all about.
In just a couple of minutes, it produced these beauties. Side note, the kitchen smelled like waffles for a bit which is fairly awesome. My cat is an asshole and decided that she does not like berries so she left. Asshole...
I popped a couple of chocolate chips ontop of the waffles. Being piping hot, they softened em right up instantly. A sprinkle of powdered sugar, a dollop of whipped creme on the berries, and boom!!!
I highly advise to look up some recipes and you around with them if you haven’t done so before. Once you make the dough it stays good for upto a week in the fridge and is a nice change of pace snackwise over the usual choices.
Thx for looking!!
