Sabudana khichadi is an Indian dish made from soaked sabudana (tapioca pearls). Pearl tapioca (Sabudana) is soaked for a while, and is then fried with cumin seeds, salt, red chili powder, green chillies, diced potatoes and other optional ingredients such as fried peanuts.
This one-pot meal is very popular in India during the fast as it does not contain any grain so suitable for fasting.
It can be taken as breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Ingredients
- Pearl tapioca (Sabudana) 1 cup
- Tomato chopped 1/2 cup
- Peanuts coarsely ground 1/2 cup
- Boiled potato 1 big size
- Green chili chopped 3-4nos
- Green coriander leaves 1/4 cup
- Lemon juice 2 tbsp
- Cummin seeds, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, coriander powder each 1 tsp
- Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
- Sugar 2 tsp
- Salt 1 tsp
- Oil 2 tbsp
- Water as required
Procedure
- Soak tapioca pearls in sufficient water for 2-3 hours
- Heat oil in a pan and add all dry spices, saute for a while.
- Add green chili, tomatoes, and boiled mashed potatoes and mix well. Cook for a while.
- Add soaked tapioca pearls and coarsely ground peanuts. Mix well and add sugar and salt.
- Cook for a while and garnish with finally chopped coriender leaves.
- Serve HOT!
