The arepa is one of the most emblematic and representative dishes of Venezuelan gastronomy. It is consumed throughout the country, made with ground corn masa or precooked corn flour, better known as Flour Bread, flattened with two circular faces.
To talk about arepas is to talk about Venezuela.
It is usually eaten almost every day at breakfast or at dinner, either as a main dish or as a companion. It is primarily marketed in areperas, restaurants specialized in arepas, very popular throughout the country and already with the number of Venezuelans who have Emigrated, can be seen in other latitudes.
In the year 2015 the American tourism and gastronomy portal Thrillist.com published a count with the 18 best breakfasts from around the world. The Venezuelan arepa achieved the position of honor, surpassing the classic American breakfast, French toast, Mexican chilaquiles and other exotic and curious dishes from countries like Pakistan, Israel, Thailand, Malaysia and Australia, among others.

Little by little, our arepa is conquering the world and flattering the most prestigious foreign palates: in London. Madrid, Buenos Aires, New York and many more cities, you can enjoy a Venezuelan arepa. There are even applications and web pages to find areperas, around the world.

On the initiative of the organization Venezolanos en el Mundo (@VenMundo), in July 2012 a World Arepazo was organized to mobilize the largest number of Venezuelans in the world. The following year, it was established every second Saturday of the month of September, as the #WorldDay ofArepa; Dedicated to celebrate the queen of Venezuelan gastronomy. It is a day to rediscover the Venezuelans abroad; A way of reconnecting with customs, culture and that the children who are abroad recognize their roots.
